My organization needs to isolate opportunities that contain certain stages. Currently, in an Opportunity History report, we are only able to pull 'to' and 'from' stages. It is vital that we are able to report on opportunities, no matter the current stage, that have contained one or more steps (stages) in their sales cycle. All opportunities in our company do not progressively move step to step which is why it is necessary, from a win/loss analysis, to understand which deals contained which stages.

These can't be monitored without being able to add these fields to the Stage History. Would be so great not to have to create another custom control to sort this.

LucidEra not only delivers historical reporting and analysis on opportunities, but also the ability to take snapshots by day, week, month, quarter, etc. in order to identify sales trends (good and bad) over time. LucidEra gives you a multidimensional view of your CRM data as well as data that has been integrated and enriched with other sources (Excel, ERP, Fortune 500, etc.).

Sorry for the blatent plug, but there's been a lot of activity in the last couple of weeks for this idea, so I thought I'd point in the right direction:

I would also like to track history on my custom Opportunity fields, and report on them. I am pretty sure there are more than 20 fields that I would like to track, but I could even make due with 20. It would also be nice if those reports could connect with other objects like Contact Roles or Accounts, etc.

We have our own method of forecasting and I am currently unable to produce trend reports that have much meaning. If I could track the history on my custom fields that would go a long way in helping me create those repots.

Thanks!

I can't speak for everyone but I believe that both features would be very helpful.

The current "Stage History" information is pretty limited so the ability to enable field history for Opportunity fields would be great. If updates to the "Amount" field are caused by changes to related products (line items) it would be great if a history entry reflected that fact.

Regarding Opportunity Product records: being able to enable field history and see the audit trail on the detail page would be great.

I have a few questions for those of you requesting history tracking on Opportunity Products...

Are you looking to track standard and custom Opportunity Product fields and see this history on the Opportunity Product detail page?

Or do you want to see Opportunity Product changes reflected on an Opportunity History related list? For example, being able to see that you added a Product to the opportunity.

Or something different yet?

As you're probably aware at present you can select certain standard and custom fields to track on the History related list of cases, solutions, leads, contracts, and custom objects.

So any time a user modifies any of the standard or custom fields whose history is set to be tracked, a new entry is added to the History related list. All entries include the date, time, nature of the change, and who made the change.

This is cool. However, it's time this functionality was available on all fields on all standard objects too. Knowing how often an address field on an Account is updated is just as useful as knowing when a Lead field is modified.

Are there plans to improve the functionality of that history tracking?

For example, on the opportunity history tracking, it would be convenient if we could designate which fields trigger a history log so we can track specific changes by user. Often, especially in the age of multi-person responsibilities on any single given record, it is critical we track which user changed some of the more relevant/important fields.
