Display the Account name on a Contact lookup search result
When you enter a popular name into Contact lookup field the system will return a list of contacts with the same spelling. The only way to identify the real contact is to perform a separate search and match the right Contact/Account combination.
A much better solution would be to display an Account name within the Lookup result list.

Filter on Lookup
I would like to filter lookup view to restrict records return based on some condition.
Example: On opportunity screen, we have Accounts as lookup. When you click on lookup it displays all the types of accounts (Like OEM / Parent / Customer / Partner etc ...) I would like to filter this result set to show only "Parent" type. Condition may change based on the screen where lookup is implemented

Mass Personal Tag
Being able to apply a tag to many records at once would be a great extension of this feature.
I don't see the ability to do that currently.

Account Naming Convention - "Known As" Option
I struggle with a naming convention in Salesforce Accounts using the following example;
Johnson and Johnson
J&J
Johnson & Johnson
This list goes on and I would like the ability to add multiple Account Alias for searching meaning the rep could enter all of the above and the account will be found. This way if a rep calls the account J&J but legal calls it Johnson and Johnson we could enter the Account as Johnson and Johnson with an alias called J&J. In order for this to work it needs the ability to enter many items and be a link next to the Account Name or something. In short, we end up with duplication because people call the Account something different and enter them differently.

Use tag results in reports, campaigns etc.
Tagging is great!
But what about allowing the user to do more things with the results? For instance, add to a campaign, mass update, delete, etc.
At the moment, the tag search simply returns the results, which you can then click on. I'd like to be able to do more with the overall results.
Anyone?

Populate Lookup's "Search" field when multiple items are found
Error is displayed when you try to save a record with multiple items matching lookup field. Nothing wrong with this. However, if you click on a Lookup icon, the "Search" field is blank instead of being populated with your initial search criteria.

Searching for Contacts by Account Name
Although the new search/filter capabilities of the Spring '07 Release are great, there is a HUGE flaw. Now when you perform a sidebar or advanced search by Account Name, it will not search the database for Contacts that are associated to the Account. You will only be presented with matching Accounts, Leads, Opportunities and Activities. The only way for you to find Contacts at a particular Account, or across multiple Accounts of the same name, is to use Reports or Views. This is very inefficient for our users. The search capability needs to allow for searching on ALL key fields within the application, and the Account Name our Contacts are associated to should be one of those!

Search Layouts only limited to 10 columns
Currently there is a limitation of only 10 columns for an object's search layout. And this is a global setting for all. We need to be able to select any number of columns for the search layout and allow users to customize their own settings. If that is not possible at least allow different column selection based on profile/role.
Searching in SalesForce Ideas
In SalesForce Ideas, it would be great if there was a search bar at the top of all the pages. People don't realize that they can use the sidebar to search for existing ideas.
Also, if you use this search bar, it should show the results of the search similar to ideas exchange search results. It should list all the ideas with summary information and the vote buttons. It should also keep within the format of the ideas section. Currently when you search for an idea in the sidebar, you can't vote for the idea directly from the results screen.

Lookup Search Fields For Custom Objects
It would be very helpful if fields marked as external IDs in custom objects will be searchable through the lookup dialog. We have a custom object that represents a person, and it has "first Name" and "Last Name' fields that are external IDs, and its "Name" field is an auto-increment number. As a result, in lookup dialogs we can search the person only according to the ordinary number, but this does not make much sense..

Allow Alphabetizing of Search Options
When using the Advanced Search option, a list of Objects to search through is presented to the user. This list appears in the chronological order with which the objects were added, not alphabetical order.
Create the option to display these in either order, on the User level.
