Salesforce.com to Outlook Contact sync

I would like to be able to choose what Contacts are synced from Salesforce.com down to Outlook. Right now it is all Contacts that I own and All Contacts on the Accounts I own. I have some Contacts that I own but do not need to be brought down to Outlook and there are other Contacts that are owned by people below me that I would like to have in my Outlook.

The only way I can see to do this now is to create Duplicate Contacts within salesforce.com for the Contacts that I do not own and for the ones I do own is to just put up with having them in my Outlook.

eoin Apr 7	I too need flexibility in terms of what contacts are synched and specifically avoiding the issues brought up by Ownership. We have very open data sharing model in our Org which I would like to model in the SF implementation, but only synching contacts that are Owned by a particular person is not enough for us. Ideally, staff could keep some private notes about that contact in a custom field in Salesforce, but other than that all Outlook contacts would be sucked up and shared via SF. And people could download the entire database to their Outlook contacts if they chose to.
sailindude May 14	We have sales teams internally and in the field, so sharing of contact info is a "must", regardless of ownership. I can handle a permission-based solution, but contact duplication is too messy and moving contacts manually defeats the purpose of the tool.
linlam Jun 6	Yes, I completely agree. My entire salesforce wants to be able to select what key contacts to download from Salesforce.com to their Outlook and we cannot do this. Each rep owns between 700-5000 contacts. Imagine having thousands of contacts in one's Outlook - I had one sales rep's Blackberry freeze because of the contact overload. If the option is available to select which Outlook contacts to upload to Salesforce.com, why can we not do the same from Salesforce.com to Outlook?
astephenc Jun 24	I wholeheartedly agree. Our contact information is shared across departments. "Owner" synching absolutely does not work for us. Using groups to synch is time-consuming and laborious to maintain. What we need are individual synclists that users can use to choose what gets synched.
wigs535 Jul 1	For us, an ideal solution would be to create a contact team, to which any user can add themselves to show they know the contact, and to be able to synchronise to Outlook, but where there is a primary owner who manages key information. This will also give account managers visibility of all our relationships with their clients.
john_worrell Jul 25	wigs535 hit the button on the nose! We have a huge need to share contact syncs into Outlook; though there is only one contact owner, owned by a sales rep for example, if the sales manager needs this contact information when he/she syncs, he cannot see it as it is owned by the sales rep only. This should be a basic collaboration piece of SF!
jimsr Jul 29	YES YES YES!!! It would also be incredibly useful to be able to sync any contact on demand at any time without having to run the entire contacts file sync. I have thousands of contacts to sync and it takes 20 minutes or more - and that is only if there are no errors. With the inevitable errors it can take 30 minutes or more to get through a sync.
erinshannon Aug 5	I think it would be simple to add a filter to the sync group. We could enter a custom field in salesforce "Sync with Outlook" and when you set up the sync profile it would only bring in contacts you own and that are checked "Sync with Outlook".
