Default Opp Close Date Upon Lead Conversion

During the lead conversion process, users are able to create an opportunity. After the opportunity is created, the close date of that opportunity is automatically set to the last day of the current fiscal quarter.

Currently, we cannot change this setting. In the future, we would like the ability to adjust this close date default to "120 days from today".

TomaszOczapowski 11/14/07	Use Workflow rule to kick off "every time record is created" and use "Update Field" action to set "Close Date" to Today()+120.
Scott_Jorgensen 11/14/07	TomaszOczapowski is correct. You can set the Close Date using a workflow rule.

What if that happens to be tomorrow? Yes - to change the close date, we must EDIT the newly created opportunity and modify it to reflect the desired close date. Lets nix that extra step - give us the ability to change what the default is. (Close date =NOW+90days) Then we don't have to rely on the users to "remember" to change the close date. Which they don't..... and this messes with our forecasting. Many thanks!

You can create a workflow rule for opportunity creation that kicks in when an opportunity is created upon lead conversion - you can set the trigger based on a rule related to any oppty field. With Winter '07 you can now link a Workflow Field Update to the workflow rule and have that field update the opportunity close date based on a rule like NOW + 7 days or similar. If you have access to pre-release, you can try that right now.

That's very annoying when it 99.9% of the time the Close Date is NOT that day. Because the Opportunity record isn't even shown after conversion and additionally, the required field is filled in with a dummy value - the first time a person edits the record, they may not "update" that field which leads to BAD data. As data quality is a very important aspect for all businesses, make it customizable to not have a value entered in the Close Date field after conversion. That will make the users enter a more accurate value for the required field when updating the record for the first time!

We have long sales cycles and rarely does an opportunity close in the same quarter it was created. This is causing problems on several executive management reports, including the all important forecast. In a perfect world, I would like to opportunity record to open and the sales rep enter the correct date. In reality, I would settle for being able to control the default value.

angela_hudson 10/06/08	I tried creating this default close date and it did not work. I submitted a case and they told me this feature is not available and told me to submit the idea on the idea exchange. I know that this worked at my last company but it is not working here and I cannot figure out why. My field just keeps showing up blank and required. Very frustrating. Does this workflow only work upon conversion? If so, that is my problem and I need it to work any time an opportunity is created.
