Pie Charts with Percentage Values Displayed
It would be nice to have the option of displaying the value of each slice of a pie chart as the percentage value represented by that slice. This could either be in lieu of the raw data that is currently displayed outside the pie as shown above or with the percentage values displayed after the description in the legend.

I really like this idea |

I recommend to combine both, the value and percentage. Example 15 (47%). |

%'s on pie charts / percent of total reporting
I'd like to be able to display pie chart values as %'s of the whole, instead of the raw number of records.
See my attached picture; instead of 15, 1 and 3 (the number of records), I'd like to be able to display those numbers as 78.9%, 5.3%, and 15.8% respectively. Similarly, I'd like to be able to report on "% of overall total" in reports in general, not just for pie charts. |

this could also be addressed by adding a "percent of total" summary to reports. both are very useful.

Paul, using a Custom Summary formula? It's been a while since I've tried that for this purpose, but it seems like either it didn't work as hoped or didn't play when sent to Excel (via the add-in etc.). It would be great if it were a feature of the pie chart feature, though yeah % of total in general would be good too.

Percent would be brilliant. Also it would be good if you could select what goes into the OTHER catgory on a pie chart when it is unable to display all the categories.

Good call Amanda! At least the ability to set the Other % (Other = 10% etc).

I agree wholeheartedly about the "other" category. I'd like to see it done away with completely, or be based on the "maximum values" field that you fill out. In other words, if the maximum values is set to 10, the top 10 show up and the rest are all lumped into "other". The current "4% rule" causes great confusion.

[The SFDC guys said we should post comments here when we can help, so here's another! ]
Our Sales Executive dashboards provide this kind of percentage based piechart labeling (in addition to a lot of other cool visualizations like a pareto chart showing cumulative percentages). You can take a closer look at us on AppExchange or view our 15 minute webcast. Thanks, Mike MacDonald Visual Mining Inc. |

In continuation of discussion of the "Other" category: I report on a field which has 4 values: A, B, C, D. Since there are less than 4% of As, the labels on the pie chart are B, C, D, Other. A little stupid.

% yes please, my management ask for this too.... currently I have to export to excel and have created a macro which graphs using percentages......
I also agree the OTHER is a total annoyance. One other thing which is greatly annoying is we use pies to compare regions, the largest piece of pie is always red, you cannot assign red to always be used for a particular category, so if in the next region the largest category is different it too is red. I've tried using custom formulas for % and cant get anywhere, any ideas? |

You can try using a Custom Summary Field depending on which fields you are reporting on. In this case, you would need an additional field to designate Email then do a Forumla saying =(#email/#cases)*100 to show the percentage. This is a work around that has worked for me.

I get asked why this is not possible on a weekly basis.

Wow, this one has really bubbled up. If you're looking for more than just % on pie charts, you might be interested in taking a look at LucidEra. Our on-demand business intelligence platform is designed from the ground up for ad hoc queries and slice and dice analysis. http://www.lucidera.com/ |

This seems like a really basic necessity for reporting. Every time I should a pie chart I get the same comments and I have to say Salesforce can't display percentages and I feel like a goon. |

This would be extremely helpful to me. I would like to know when this might be implemented. |

One possibility for a workaround is to try using a Custom Formula Field that references the google chart api. I haven't used it to display the percentage, just the raw amounts, but you can pass it whatever text you want to display. For example, let's say that on your object you have 2 custom currency fields: Amount1__c and Amount2__c. The formula to display these values in a pie chart is: IMAGE("http://chart.apis.google.com/chart?cht=p3&chd=t:" & Text( Amount1__c ) & "," & Text( Amount2__c ) & "&chs=300x100&chl= First Label|Second Label", "chart text") |
