Scheduled execution of Apex

Similar to cron or scheduler I want to run apex code on a timed basis.

pfarrell 08/22/07	Should include the ability to utilize Salesforce SOA (for pushing data to the outside) some sort of history logging (with ability to push or pull this data) ability to detect and rerun or failover on failures complex scheduling (i.e. day(s) of month, date(s) in month, etc)

echod 05/08/08	Yes yes yes. This very overdue. There is a CronKit app on AppExchange, we need to able to define frequency less than 24 hour period (every hour, every quarter hour, etc)

md1 10/13/08	Is this going to be on the radar soon? I know there's a free AppExchange app to do something on the lines but to have it natively would be awesome.
qingsong_li 11/23/08	That will very helpful for backgroub processs data, for instance, the attachment object currenct is not allowed in opportunity report, we added a customer field in opportunity and wrote a apex class to update the checkbox every day (since new attachment will not have any trigger to fire the apex code), so If we have scheduled executeion of apex code, we will not need to use data load or manual execute the apex code, that will reduce our workload.
crop1645 11/24/08	Here's our use case for this feature: 1. Contracts have an Initial Term (begin date/end date) 2. Contracts may have an auto-renew feature which if TRUE, means the end date extends by Extension Months. The only way to do this is run through every Contract once a day, see if today=EndDate and auto-renew=true, then increment EndDate by ExtensionMonths. An APEX class can do all this but we need a way to schedule this class through SFDC, not through some external program/chron job
gerhard277611022007 12/04/08	This is about the 5th time in 12 months I've needed to schedule something and everytime I have problems. In some cases I can use time based workflows to fire the apex code, but then the limits are lower. But today I got a new problem: System.VisualforceException: Getting content from within triggers is currently not supported. So its not possible to use a time based workflow trigger to call a class that emails out a pdf of a visualforce page. This idea really needs to be implemented.
