Keyboard shortcuts wanted!
Can some keyboard shortcuts be added to salesforce please? I'm six months in to using it and I have developed chronic RSI pain in my mouse click finger. For instance, nearly every time a Lead is called up, it gets edited. That's a prime candidate for a keyboard shortcut, like CTRL+E. I can suggest others, as well. Thank you for looking in to this.

Yes. I am in full agreement. Much desired. I work this way in all my other apps. There must be a challenge to differentiate between the browser interpreting the shortcuts and how to communicate this to SFDC. |

I just did a little research and came across this: Adding Keyboard Shortcuts to Your Web User Interface By Ivan Pepelnjak, Nov 2, 2007 http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1024325&seqNum=1 It alludes that Gmail has keyboard shortcuts. I'm not sure if this would need to occur on SFDC side or if the Javascript could be produced within customized keyboard shortcuts on user side. Seems possible though. |

Both keyboard shortcuts and right-click menus would really make for a complete OnDemand app. Most experienced people are used to keyboard shortcuts. On the other hand, right-click shortcut menus would make usability so much better. One simple example is saving records. People working on docs are so used to Ctrl+S. Having that in SFDC will be completely awesome. |

I agree 100% and have been asking for more shortcuts since I started using salesforce 3 years ago. The only shortcuts I know are the ctrl-1 through ctrl-0 that call up the last 10 things you've looked at. I would love a way to take a task and push it to the next day with one click or a short cut command. Each one now takes 4-5 clicks and page loads. |

I agree. I have been using salesforce for about 2 days. It has lots of strengths, but the lack of keyboard shortcuts is a major weakness! I am used to using ACT which has many keyboard shortcuts so I rarely take my hands away from the keyboard to move the mouse. The less time spent using the mouse the more efficient I am at moving from one lead to the next.... My company is planning to move to SalesForce once our trial period is over. I really hope shortcuts are planned in the very near future because it will be very time consuming to have to go around clicking everything to command the system to do simple routines... |

Hot Keys / Quick Keys / Keyboard Shortcuts / Key Commands
Hot Keys / Quick Keys / Keyboard Shortcuts / Key commands
A key UE feature that salesforce.com is missing is the ability to do things like save / create a record via the keyboard. Records can be very long and require scrolling to save. Also, a combo of keys to toggle between Tabs / Apps / Objects. It would save users time and mouse play if they could use a keyboard short cut to complete an action. For example: Ctrl S to save a record OR Alt S to toggle to the Solutions Tab. |

I can not agree more. More and more organizations are hiring database professionals to adminster their Salesforce application. In order for SFDC to embed itself deeper into the work days of these "savvy" pros, keyboard shortcuts are 100% necessary.

I don't even think it's about "Savvy Pros". I think that developers (our own software developers included) have a mouse fixation and don't understand that the people who have to use their applicaitons actually use a keyboard as their interface. Assigning shortcuts to tabs, functions and fields would be a great enhancement.
Imagine: Alt-C to take me to Contacts, Ctrl-N to create a New record and Crtl-E to go straight to the email field, followed by Ctrl-V (a protected shortcut ?) to paste in the data I've copied from somewhere else. |

Keyboard shortcuts would be great. Salesforce is probably the largest contributer to my RSI in my mouse wrist. |

This seems like a really powerful addition that SFDC could make to its application. My users would love this. |

If this could be applied to the "hover-over" tabs (our SF version has 23 of these on our main page) this would be extremely powerful -- Frequently, mouse movement causes one of these to drop open and stick which obscures the others -- "hot-keys" will at least give harried users another way to keep moving! |
