This would be great. We currently use the MapQuest functionality that is available on the AppExchange, but it is not ideal. One thing is that MapQuest only uses the "billing address" from the Accounts and because we work with properties (vs. Accounts) that usually bill to a Parent Account and we use the "shipping address" as the actual Property location, this doesn't work well for us in many cases. I would hope that we would have the ability to use either of the address fields on the Account if the Google Map functionality is made available. Thanks! |

Of all the ideas I've seen for mapping with salesforce.com... this one is the best! |

Totally agree, we have been struggling to build our own version of this for a while now but if it could be available via the standard reports tab that would be AMAZING!!!! |

Arrowpointe Corp. (my company) has just announced a configurable, on-demand mapping solution that ties Salesforce.com & MapQuest together. It's as close as it currently gets to the functionality this idea describes. Get more information at http://www.arrowpointe.com/maps. The blog post announcing it is at http://sfdc.arrowpointe.com/2007/06/29/introducing-arrowpointe-maps/. |

Visual Mining has done something similar to this as well with Google. Here is an example: http://demo.visualmining.com/projects/GeoMapProject/mappage.jsp?THRESHOLD=50000. It supports highlighting info from salesforce opportunities and also supports drilldown. This could probably be added as a mashup dashboard item. |

Perfect when visiting clients within the same region. Streamline also the miles expense report process! |

Add to this the ability to map 'custom' objects. Real estate is an obvious example but this idea extends to a number of industries. |

Arrowpointe Maps (http://www.arrowpointe.com/maps) now supports the ability to map custom objects. Version 1.0.1 was released on July 10, 2007 with this feature. Read more about this capability at http://sfdc.arrowpointe.com/2007/07/10/arrowpointe-maps-supports-custom-objects/. I don't mean to turn this comment thread into a walking advertisement for the product, but I want to be sure everyone is "in the know" about the product as it is new, improvements are being made to it regularly and it meets the needs expressed in this idea. |

This would be great, but I would also like to see this applied to custom objects as well. We are a real estate company that has a custom object called "Properties." This type of report would be very useful to us if we could map the address fields in the property object. |

Any idea how soon this will be available??? |
|

I second DTervo's comment that this should apply to custom objects as well. We are a steel construction company and I have a custom object called "Jobs" that I would love to use this for. |

The Google maps are amazing. I suggest everyone play with the 100's of maplets already available. And how wonderful if google data could be mixed, merged, matched and displayed with my contact, lead or account data. Warm calling contacts or leads could begin with ... "I noticed that xxx was going on in your area..." Google mapplets documentation could make Google maps in Salesforce a relatively easy project for a "developer - user" team. A developer - user community could work like this. Users could play with the many custom maplets available in My Maps on Google. They could design, develop, explore and suggest the best, most useful maplets that already are working on the Google site. This Idea Exchange thread could be a starting collection place for these user suggestions or preferences. (I like the Google Real Estate Search for my area under featured content, under my maps, on Google maps.) Then developers could link these "dream maps" into salesforce making these wonderful web services usable to everyone through the AppExchange. My first developer contribution is the google documentation link below. There is an web editable workspace for maplets right on google. There is sample code on the google site for simple "hello world" projects as well as full documentation for more complex projects such as real estate search around your area from the google database. Yes - The source code for these maplets is public, right on the google site. Is this sort of public team collaboration possible or easy? Can things be developed fast in a community? Who knows. This is the link for My maps on my machine today: http://maps.google.com/maps <- Click the My Maps Tab This is the documentation code link you can also find there: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/mapplets/ |

In addition to Arrowpointe Maps having the type of functionality described in this idea (see my above comments), we just released multi-point driving directions that can be generated right in Salesforce. Check out the demo at http://www.arrowpointe.com/wp-content/images/RoutingIntro.swf. > more of this kind of useful functionality to come. We're on the AppExchange at http://www.salesforce.com/appexchange/detail_overview.jsp?NavCode__c=&id=a033... |

Yep, a reporting option that allows you to select "with Map" and that is powered by Apex to produce a google map would be great! |

Last comment about Arrowpointe Maps, I promise. This IDEA is close to my heart and I've been working hard to deliver this kind of functionality to Salesforce users. We just released the ability to pull data directly from a Salesforce.com report into a map. I'll be posted a video of this on the blog at http://sfdc.arrowpointe.com. the meantime, you can test it yourself in the Test Drive at http://www.salesforce.com/appexchange/detail_overview.jsp?NavCode__c=&id=a033... . |

I agree, to include Custom Objects with Google Maps would be fantastic. Can we receive some type of update from Salesforce whether this is being worked and what the timeframe for any roll-out might look like. |

when this is done it would be great if you could set the parameter for which "google maps" URL to default to ... ie, I'd love to set it to http://maps.google.com.au/ rather than maps.google.com |

This is a great idea - would be great to have a custom app and have a visualforce view for the page layout be the google map with the records displayed as geographic locations. |
