Salesforce Mobile Support for Apple iPhone
--Update--
The Salesforce Mobile for iPhone App is now available on iTunes
----------
Please develop Salesforce Mobile support for the Apple iPhone using the integration features that Apple just announced at WWDC '07:
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/06/11iphone.html
- Initiating calls
- Sending emails
- Display location on Google Map
- Create Calendar entries

I think this will be way down the road (if at all). The iPhone in it's current state is not an enterprise device, no matter how much Apple wants it to be one (licensing Exchange ActiveSync, etc.). The solution in the short term would be to use Safari and just use the regular web application. I know this doesn't give you offline capability, but I don't see Apex Mobile coming to the iPhone any time soon. |

Many of the iphone features like starting calls, can be easily integrated using custom fields. |

I have used SFDC on the iphone and there really is no need for APEX mobile. Using the Safari browser the experience is incredible. |

I agree with bhollinger... I just got my iPhone and have been testing it with SFDC. I've been able to use it without enabling WiFi on the iPhone. |

Hey Gang - I'm looking at the iPhone and wanted to know if you were still happy with using Safari to use your SFDC after 6 months of playing with it? Also, would you go back to the APEX mobile feature if you could? Thanks for your input and ideas! |

How do you feel the browser works over the edge network? I get about 30s to 1m for each navigation. Also, in a poor coverage area, its even worse. With Apex mobile, a lot has gone into caching data locally for common use and being able to work on that, access that data even when out of coverage or on a plane. That model seems to still be the preferred mobile metaphor. I believe in the not too distant future, the mobile networks will catch up and then it will be a viable option. Thoughts? |

Yes Larry, I think that Salesforce.com should definitely develop a mobile client app for the iPhone as soon as the SDK is made available to help alleviate the lag due to low bandwidth on the EDGE network. |

I can't wait to be able to access SF on my iPhone. Beyond using SF as a CRM, we are running HR, Project Management, Bug Tracking and simple document management all through SF. To access all of those apps from the iPhone and while on the road. WOW! Nearly 1/2 of our team members have an iPhone. If there were a simple iPhone interface to SF, all the Palm Treos will become what they deserve, bricks. Now, if you could make the iPhone work with SF & Exchange Server... |

Would love some more feedback from those actually using the iPhone with SF. Some initial thoughts: -Speed? Someone mentioned EDGE...how are things over WiFi? -Layout/Appearance? No issues? Are you using this regularly, or only in "jam" situations? Is it ThAt tolerable an experience? Very excited to hear back. Thanks in advance. |

Now that Apple has released the SDK and Salesforce has demoed a native app for the iPhone, let's get it to the masses! |

WiFi works well for web browsing. Ideally we need an optimized set of style sheets for the mobile browser to improve the real time browser experience. And as already noted, we just showed a basic technology demo as part of the Apple iPhone SDK announcement. So watch this space over the next few months. |

Along with the SDK and the API overview, Apple announced the Microsoft Exchange integration for corporate email and calendar. Also the support for VPN has been committed for the release of the software in June. This projects the iPhone straight into the corporate market. Please stay tuned to the Mobile blog for future announcements! http://blogs.salesforce.com/mobile/ |

Dammit! That demote button is too close to the promote button! I've voted for the idea to move it away a bit - IdeaExchange admins, this is me officially asking you to change my "demote" to a "promote" - noone could accuse you of vote rigging! |

LOL! Will take care of it. |

Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwo2VbDA1Io Native access to SFDC from the iPhone |
|

I just tried Safari access, and as with other Web sites, the iPhone is smart enough to spot a phone number and prompt for dialing when I click on it. For me this is about occasionally looking someone up, not updating notes or other heavy lifting (that's what the laptop's for) or off-line access. So I hope Salesforce doesn't do this only under the Mobile edition. All I really want is a pared down alternate CSS so I'm not spending all my time zooming and panning. |

Yes, especially with the new 3G iPhone, it would be nice to see a different web UI to SFDC through Mobile Safari, as an option for those who don't need offline access to their SFDC data on their iPhones. |

Hmm - so since I can't edit any records with this app, should I create a new idea to have the iPhone client mimic the functionality of the BB client? |
|
paolo Jul 15 |
No! :-) the product will evolve. More functionalities will be delivered very soon. Please look at this blog entry: http://blogs.salesforce.com/mobile/2008/07/updates-on-sale.html |

We have been working on MintFly.com which is an iPhone style web app interface to Salesforce. Here is our AppExchnge listing: https://www.salesforce.com/appexchange/detail_overview.jsp?id=a0330000005lEsAAAU |

This may be better suited for support but here goes nothing... When using the new SF.com app for the iphone, I can't seem to make any changes to any fields in the account record. I do have this ability when using my browser, so I don't think it's a permission issue. Any thoughts? Does "Salesforce Mobile" have different permission settings? |
