High quality Google Search functionality in Salesforce
Lot of ideas concerning improvements of the search functionality have been submitted. Seems like a good improvement action in which Google could help

I would like to see a Google-powered search replacing the current (dreadful) Salesforce search engine. Combining every search term with an implicit OR is ridiculous. |

Mason: Are you referring to Sidebar Search in your comment about implicit ORs? What query syntax would you prefer? All: Are there other specific changes to search that you would like to see? |

Better Search Funtionality
SFDC needs search functionality that is more google-esqe. For example, if I have a contact named John E. Smith and I type John Smith into my search box it won't find him. Also suggestions of misspelled names would be nice, in the same way google handles this, makes some suggestions.

Search Google Docs and Speadsheets from within Salesforce
I use Google Docs and Speadsheets religously and I imagine when the Preso app is ready, I will also use that heavily. Would be great to have a search area from within salesforce that looks up the doc I want and opens it within a salesforce.com tab...or just opens up the doc in a new window.
Vote on my other ideas as well: http://www.salesforceius.com/ideas.html |

Hi,
It would be nice if Google Docs can be mixed with Salesforce. Our organization use Google Apps with Google Docs and I am asking of Salesforce could mix these two services. It would be so great. |

Recently merged alot of similar and duplicate ideas around better Google search functionality within salesforce. Common ideas are : a) improved search functionality within salesforce b) allow salesforce search to reach out into my google world (docs/presentations/etc) |

Add Google Search to Salesforce.com User Accounts
Currently the existing SFDC search (within the application) is fairly limited and doesn't always seem to return results that I know are in the system. So I spend time hunting for the right information or document.
With the new relationship with Google, why not use the Google Search technology to find anything within my SFDC user account, including documents, PDFs, PPTs, Word docs, database records, etc. I believe this would return more relevant results. Google understands search. SFDC understands CRM. Don't reinvent search, use Google....or at least make it an option to the default SFDC search. Use the same search for the Case and self service portals. This would make a big improvement. |

I agree this would be a very useful addition to search capability. Adding more value if google was being used at the enterprise level internally to connect search solutions as a knowldege base.

I agree, the advanced search capability is lacking a bit. I'd like to see this Google relationship give me the ability to search on Record IDs as well, even though its not a visible field in my record. |

Given the real power of the data in SFDC and history we are building having a googlelike search engine would give us some real power to leverage this data further. We're using Google desktop and it realy does make things fantastic. The other comment I would make is there are a lot of requests for search functionality but phrased slightly differently, can we add them all together? |

Agreed. Our users basically have given up on searching solutions. They are trying to find solutions they know are in the database but cannot be easily found. Sidebar search would also benefit solution searching. |

I agree and promote this idea too. I have added some other suggestions to enhance SFDC's search capabilities, please review them and offer comments. Searching - Formula Searching http://ideas.salesforce.com/article/show/10093619/Searching__Formula_Searching Advanced Find - Complex "Or" Searching http://ideas.salesforce.com/article/show/10093618/Advanced_Find__Complex_Or_S... |

Would like the left sidebar to have better search capabilities - possibly using Google instead. Searching for A.B.C. Company should return ABC Company as part of the results. |

Of course, Salesforce could improve on Google, but not if that means I have to explain to users how to use Salesforce AS WELL AS Google.
