Eliminate Horizontal Scrollbars

Web applications should not have horizontal scrollbars. They harm usability.

Vote for this idea if you would like to see horizontal scrollbars removed from the salesforce interface in all possible situations.

Here are some of biggest offenders today:
- Activity "View All" display (pictured above)
- Report Customization Wizard
- Forecasts

rpr 05/16/07	While I would also like it if horizontal scrolling was eliminated, I'm not going to vote for this because I'd rather have to scroll on a report (for example) than be limited to the number of columns that could be included. I would like to see the elimination of scrolling in the app where it is possible through re-design, and some "best practice" tips added to help Administrators / users where it is not. For example, on some our our edit pages - especially where multi-picklists are involved - there is a lot of horizontal scrolling. Over time, I discovered some ways to minimize this, but it was through a lot of trial and error.
ttt 05/16/07	If the user wants a report with 20 columns, the browser will try to fit the report on the screen by breaking on wordspaces where it can, but if you want a 200x200 matrix report, that can't be fitted on one screen. How do we avoid scrolling?
Scott_Jorgensen 05/17/07	I made a clarification to the idea: The Report Customization Wizard is the offender, when the "Next" button scrolls off the screen it gets very difficult to use. I agree with your comments that reports themselves should do whatever it takes to display large amounts of data well... which of course includes horizontal scrollbars.

Many times I face questions from clients or users why this awkward scroll is coming isn't it a very simple thing to do-- if were to ask me in any web application to remove a horizontal scroll is very simplistic , but salesforce doesn't provide any means of controlling this, a workaround for thus would be very helpful and would enable us to give a better UI to SF users.
eyewellse Jul 9	The screenshot above is of the View All Activity list. I think the scroll bar shows up when there is an email entry with a bunch of email addresses on the TO or CC line. These apparently aren't wrapped, and the offending email then screws up the whole View All view, and makes it scrollable... I say salesforce should force a line break on TO and CC lines, to prevent scrolling on the View All view.
lotsofbikes Jul 30	When I am setting up an email blast, my output has many columns displayed. To view the data that is to the far right, I have to highlight something on the left then drag the mouse to the right to get it to display those hidden columns. Then I must highlight in a similar manner to be able to see the columns on the left again. More of a nuisance than anything, but it would be nice to have a scroll bar or a wider display panel. -Sean
