Report on Field History Tracking for Detail Object in Master-Detail Relationship

Add the ability to report on Field History Tracking for a detail object in a master-detail relationship. For instance, you have a custom object called Quotes and create a lookup field with a master-detail relationship to Accounts. You enable field history tracking on the Quotes object and would like to report on this data.

Note: You can already report on the field history tracking for custom objects that are not the detail object in a master-detail relationship.

loris 06/13/07	Yes! This would be very useful. I created a custom object to get around the inability to enable field history tracking on standard objects and then ran into the roadblock with not having the history reports avail in the master-detail relationship. By changing the relationship to a lookup rather than master detail, I got the history reporting back but lost some of the fields needed from the lookup object to report on!

At the moment, history reports can only be run for the master object within custom objects where a master object is designated, not for the "child" object. The "child" custom object still tracks all modifications to its given records, yet these changes can't be shown in reports. These history reports can only be run for the "child" if the master relationship is destroyed, which would end the ability to roll up objects. Given the fact that all changes are already tracked, history reports should be available for all objects within a master detail relationship.
mtlcanuck Apr 28	This should be basic functionality. Why would you want to track changes and then NOT be able to report on it???? The data is being stored in a table, how do we get it into a report?????? This is key for performance reviews and goal meets!
diz May 28	Right, this is basic functionality. At least provide some sort of workaround for getting this information.

We've built various custom object from downloading Strategic Account Plans from SFDC Labs to custom ones for our purposes and when I tried to report on it, I found that was not available. It's great that I can go into each of the hundreds of custom objects to look at the tracking, but it would be great to report on it. Even better if I can set workflow from the change in value.

To create your report, go to the Other Reports folder, and then find your custom object in the list (it will be towards the bottom), and selection the one that has the word "history" after the custom object name.

For instance with a custom Address object related to Account as it's Master, the standard report would be Account with Address History Report.

marc_pannenberg Oct 23	It is not clear why history reporting for custom objects should not work when they are in M-D relationships with other objects. Seems more of an oversight rather than a new feature.
