Introduce a mechanism to allow time based workflow using a custom date/time field on Activities.
For example, I have users who wish to schedule an email to be (e.g. sent to a lead) in the FUTURE as a followup task, and they want that lead to be emailed automatically (with intervention before the scheduled date to turn it off, etc). The workflow I envision would work like this:
1. Admin sets up a custom checkbox field on the Activity allowing users to schedule an email. Also, a custom date/time field for when the email would be sent (and possibly even fields for custom email address, body, etc).
2. When the date triggers, the checkbox is evaluated and if checked the email is automatically sent.
A scheduled email activity list would be helpful to see all the pending actions that will take plan, and when. This would be valuable when and if Salesforce introduces an Activities tab to summarize all activities, but that's a longer story.
There is a feature today that allows you to "send a notification email" about a change happening TODAY (Now) but there is no way to send an email to the Lead themselves on a future date, similar to the way you might schedule reminders. So this is a gap item in our workflow.
Thanks.
