Make Asset available on AppEx Mobile

Our sales people heavily uses the Asset object to get an understanding of the customers’ situation and are required to update information about competitors’ equipment. Therefore it would be very beneficial if that object was available in the mobile application as well as in the Offline Edition.

Asset is basically the only SFA standard object not available. Of cause we could create a custom object, but that sort of defies the idea with the asset object.

agt Jun 16	PerGeert, you made a custom object to make assets available in the Mobile version? We desperately need the assets to be added to Mobile. Its the only standard object not available on Mobile. We need this or a work around.

Larry_Robinson Oct 6	My last comment means that we are considering this for a future release. Timeline is pushed out to next year. agt Oct 13	PerGeert can you describe how you made a custom object. Is it easy to replicate the asset object as a custom object. Thanks
LindsayJ Oct 20	We have invested a lot into using assets as the summary of all the sales activity at each account. The sales reps and our resellers use them a lot. I would like them to display in the mobile and in the PRM. When we first implemented I thought of making a custom object but did not want to have to replicate all the existing relationships. I have been waiting for assets to be fully available and putting in messy workarounds ever since. It is odd that all the custom object I create can be exposed in the mobile and PRM but a longstanding useful object in SF still does not show up.
agt Nov 6	I understand that I can create a custom object for a workaround on this problem. I have created custom objects before. I heavily use the assets object now. How do I get my old data into the new Asset Custom Object without destroying my current relationships? Is there an easy way to duplicate my Asset object as a custom object. Thanks

For example: Asset (currently available under SFDC Custom Object) is a related list under Account object. We would like to see Asset as one of Mobile objects (linked to Account and Case).

agt Nov 14	Larry When creating a custom object for assets, would I trasnfer my existing assets to the custom object? Is there a way to clone the asset object into a custom object? I have a custom object "service" that is connected to the asset object and do not want to manually create the connections with the new custom object.
