Salesforce.com Integrated Webmail Client
Wouldn't it be great if we never had to leave the Salesforce.com interface for any business task?
I really dislike MS Outlook - it's enormous, unstable, and very often inflexible. I would LOVE it if Salesforce.com created an integrated webmail client into their product. Our company uses POP3/IMAP for e-mail (as do many, many small companies), and we use Salesforce.com for all of our tasking and scheduling, so it wouldn't be a problem to use Salesforce.com as a web e-mail client.
Now that Salesforce.com has Email Relaying, as well as all of the other PIM features that have been there for a while, they are pretty close to having all of the underlying pieces that they need to replace MS Outlook. Perhaps the Google Apps Premier version of Gmail could be integrated into Salesforce.com as the webmail interface.
If I could receive and process my e-mail in Salesforce.com, I would almost NEVER have to leave the Salesforce.com interface!! Then we wouldn't need the clumsy Outlook Edition integration, and have the hassle of maintaining two separate customer relationship data stores.
Anyone else interested in this concept?

Try using Zimbra: http://www.salesforce.com/appexchange/detail_overview.jsp?NavCode__c=&id=a033... I have this set up in my dev edition and it works great. It is NOT single sign on, however, it replaces MS Exchange, but still does give you the ability to sync to Outlook if you so choose. A great edition to the SF platform. |

Thanks for the suggestion SanFranChris, but I think we want a more integrated solution that would be provided by Salesforce.com as an integral part of the interface. Zimbra requires external hosting and a lot of other overhead that most Salesforce.com administrators don't want to have to deal with. We want something as easy to administer as the rest of the Salesforce.com platform. |

It'd be really nice to have something alike, not only because this would save time for smaller companies, but mainly because, while on route, MS Outlook - web interface simply doesn't do the job. if the offline edition is great, the web lacks significant functionality and it cannot be integrate it with salesforce - thus, we have to do a job twice, at least. |

Now you can import all of the email from your existing mail system into Gmail through IMAP!! See the "Mail Migration" http://www.google.com/a/help/intl/en/admins/new.html#admin |

Our people want a one-stop web-based CRM/Mail solution. Rolling out remote users should be as easy as "here is the URL username and password" rather than, "here is the URL, please get a licence of Outlook, download this plug in, remember to add each email to Salesforce oh, and by the way, it is slow and may well crash your system from time to time -- but nevermind." Please, Salesforce, add full email handling to Salesforce -- I believe Microsoft has done it with theirs. |

There is a new product called OrangeMafia on the AppExchange that saves emails from Yahoo!, Gmail, Blackberry, and many other email applications. It requires no install and has a free version. |

Ability to receive email in Salesforce.com = Death to Outlook. We'd never use it again!!! Yes, the Outlook integration is great but it's yet one more thing users need to learn how to use, install etc. I'm surprised this wasn't implemented a long time ago..perhaps SF is concerned about the volume of email they would have to process? |

I too am amazed that SF hasn't really taken this on board and actually looked at a solution to this. To truly make this a full blown CRM system and therefore a critical system to the business integration with email and connecting it to leads/contacts automatically will drastically improve SFA, Contact Management, Customer Support...etc! I have heard that FreeCRM, a small scale organisation in comparison to SF, not to mention a very ugly GUI has managed to rectify this by adding the ability to use their system as your e-mail client. You can add POP3 accounts which means, Gmail, Hotmail...etc and the system will automatically link the e-mail to the Contact or Lead (This was apparently achieved last year). In addition another online CRM Relenta, www.relenta.com, also a small size company in comparison to SF has the same ability, but takes it another step. Relenta trully acts like Outlook Online and runs very much as an e-mail client with the added ability to link to leads or contacts. Both these guys can also harness the power of the contact database and create e-mail lists for e-mail marketing. Zoho CRM has noted in their forums that they are intending to add this functionality as well as integrating with the other Google products. So if all these smaller guys can get a solution to this, I fail to see why SF being an industry leader is incapable of doing it. |

I definitely agree with this. I am tired of IT playing games with our exchange server and salesforce ip's. |

this would drive end user license growth too... oganisations would ditch exchange and outlook and switch to sfdc for every email user (i.e. everyone). They could sell AppEx licences for the non-sales users. If their strategy really is a multi-product company they need a good tool in this space. Partnering with google apps would be ideal. |

YES YES YES !!! I'm amazed this is not already the case. I only subscribed to s-force mobile because I got the impression that it could log activity to SF AND send e-mail via the g-mail acct established with my SF license. Apparently this is not the case. The google SForce collaboration sounds more like potential than reality. Hope this idea in particular gets fast tracked. Its so fundamental. |
