A REAL advanced search feature - search by multiple fields
I would like to submit a real 'advanced search' request. The current advanced search is not advanced at all. It only provides a single field that searches throughout every field. The only advanced option is that you can select in which information you search (e.g. cases). In general, this results in far too many records.
I would like to see an option where you can search in any combination of fields. So if I want to search for something in a case, I want to be able to search in the case subject and/or description and/or status and/or account and/or etc. etc. This should of course also be possible for all information (accounts, contacts etc).
We used AccPac before SalesForse. That system had an advanced search screen for each entity, and you were also able to customize the thix screen. It also allowed you to save your search criteria for re-use.
I now created a 'Search cases' report as a workaround, because that allows me to specify very advanced filters. The 'bad' thing with this is that you have to run the report and then edit the filter. It would be great if the advanced filter options from reports could be added to the advanced search screen.

Maybe you should take a closer look at some of the new features in Spring 07. Now you have the possibility to filter Search Results. Agreed, you want to do it before you search but this already gives you 10 additional fields to filter on inside your search results. More details can be found here: http://blogs.salesforce.com/features/2007/02/customizable_se.html |

Simple is good. Google has just one search box with a few "keywords" to narrow search. Your advance search remind me more of report functionality. |

Searching by multiple fields is a necessity for us, limiting search to one imput field is a huge productivity loss. The current search, then filter is a two step process - when you are on the phone with a customer, struggling to find their record is a serious limitation to delivering customer success. |

I guess this is very important and a very good request - I've worked on some other tools that provide such options and it eases searching of any issue and also reduces that the time that a person has to spend on finding any specific information within SFDC, especially when I could deal with history information spanning thousands of records. |

I pretty sure this functionality is available now. Do a search, On your search results screen, there is a button on the right that says Customize for each object type returned. Select the pick list value "filters for all users" and customize away. Does that accomplish what you are trying to do? |

Good Idea - I agree that this would actually make the "advanced search" function advanced ! It would me much quicker than having to write a report or create a view to find something very specific |

I voted for this idea yesterday before really playing around with the search filters which I think are great - this is pretty much 95% of what we need and being able to filter by multiple criteria (e.g. State = MD or CA) is key and a great feature. To extend this a bit more I might suggest altering the 'advanced search' a bit so one could perform this type of search immediately or use the advanced search as it is now. I envision being able to click on advanced search which takes me to a screen where I could select the object I want to search and then the filters I pre-determined for my org come up for me. The reason this would be useful for us is to find general contacts in a given state very easily. |

The real problem is that the normal search feature doesn't search every field, and there is no way to specify which fields should be searchable, short of trying to make them all External Id's. For example if I am searching for an Account, the regular search bar will only search the Name, City, State and a couple of other standard fields. If I have put in a custom field for Region, I have to go to the Advanced Search section to search by it. I'd much rather check a box in the Region field's setup to add it the list of fields that the standard search box looks at. |

We are a little frustrated having added many custom fields to Opportunity Products, enhancing information retained throughout the sales process for future use. Sadly, we cannot search on values in these fields which is extremely limiting. So - I agree with the need for a truely enhanced "enhanced search". |

Great idea, a natural requirement of any Dbase search, this will help ninimise time and errors |

I agree and promote this idea too. I have added some other suggestions to enhance SFDC's search capabilities, please review them and offer comments.
