Report Layout Design Page
Salesforce needs to allow users the ability to create report layouts. Reporting in Microsoft Excel is very limited and not very user friendly. This is especially true if you are reporting on 20+ fields. The ability to stack fields would be much more reader friendly than having to scroll across a long report.
The design page should enable the user to place Salesforce fields anywhere he/she wants on the page. The design page should also enable the user to format Report Header, Section Header, Report Body, Section Footer, Report Footer sections.
Of course, this would require that the report be exported to an application other than Excel. Microsoft Word would suffice since this is included in the Office plugin.
Finally, the ability to imbed "Subreports" on a "Mainreport" layout is a must. A good example of why this would be necessary is if a user wanted to create a report on a contact and then also include in the same report information related to child custom objects.

If Salesforce wants to continue to claim that they provide an enterprise solution, then they need to provide a report designer, without requiring customers to purchase an expensive plugin. If Microsoft can do it with Access and SQL Server, then there is no reason why Salesforce can't also do it. |

Allow Report Layout Customization
Current Report Functionality is good enough for all practical purpose. Howerver what salesforce reporting tool is lacking, "Report Presentation."
Allow users / Admins to customize report layout (Not expecting complete report development product like Crystal / BO but atleast Template Based Report Generation). Email Templates are great examples |

This would be awesome. The most time consuming part of any reporting is the formatting. The amount of times I have had to export raw data to excel only to then have to create a summary page with loads of nested IF formulae, just to make it presentable! |

I agree with all these comments. We use Products and Scheduling and when trying to run a Forecast Report for senior management, we get a very wide, staggered looking report with redundant rows - vs., a sum of the rows (i.e. opportunity amounts) by month. I have explored this with DreamFactory and they have not developed that report format yet. Salesforce.com does not currently enable this. This is a fairly standard Forecast report that should be developed for all clients who use the Products and Scheduling add-on, and could be marketed together. |

A simple "NOTES" field on the report page would be a BIG help to start!! |

With SAP buying Business Objects, I am a little concerned that the Crystal Reports pack for Salesforce will fall by the waist side. Salesforce NEEDS to provide their own reporting tool that formats and integrates with the application. The current report mechanism is very light on functionality. I would also like to see snapshot report be embedded within objects (opportunity snapshots on the account page) |

Dont know why I have never seen this idea, but it is definitely a good one. Something like Crystal Reports - but better and easier to use would be awesome. |
