Use 'Owners' for workflow purposes
I would like to create a workflow rule that triggers a task for the owner of an opportunity, account, or contact in certain circumstances. However, the workflow rules require me to define a specific user, rather than allowing me to indicate that this alert/task etc be delivered to the owner of the record triggering the event.

Xiidaen: You can already do this using current functionality. When you create your Workflow Task and are filling in the "Assigned To" field, you should click on the magnifying glass icon. When you do, you'll get a pop-up box that allows you to specify the type of assignment you want to make. These are your choices: User, Role, Owner, Creator |

Apparently this doesn't work for work flow rules. Additionally, you can't create an alert on task work flow rules. This is a major SFDC weakness for managing others and general project management. I hope this can be overcome soon. |

James: This works for ALL Workflow Rules. If this isn't working for you in your Workflow Rules it might help if you provided some more details describing the situation. THe issue here may be it is only available for Tasks, not for emails, but you should know that I contacted support about this issue before posting and they told me it was not possible at all. That said, it should be available on ANY workflow items, including emails. |
