Make 'Customize Application' permission more granular

There are a lot of different types of permissions in this one tick box and it would be great if they were split out a bit more. For example, it may be useful to give a marketing super user access to the lead routing rules, without giving them the power to rearrange the whole configuration.

hemm 05/25/07	Merged Idea originally posted 04/10/07 Break out the current "Customize Application" permission into several unique permissions According to the help, the Customize Application permission allows a user to do the following: - Edit messages and custom links; - Modify standard picklist values; - Create, edit, delete custom fields; - Create, edit, delete page layouts (also requires the "Edit" permission for the record, for example, "Edit" on accounts); - Set field-level security; - Create, edit, delete custom links; - Set password policies; - Edit the Lead Settings; - Activate big deal alerts; - Create record types; - Set up Web-to-Case and email response rules; - Set up Web-to-Lead and email response rules; - Set up assignment and escalation rules; - Edit Self-Service page layouts and portal color theme (also requires the "Manage Self-Service Portal" permission to set up and maintain Self-Service settings and delete your organization's Self-Closed Case Status value); - Set up and enable multilingual solutions - Set up team selling; - Set up account teams; - Map custom lead fields; - Manage queues; - Create, edit, and delete workflow rules, tasks, field updates, outbound messages, and alerts; - Create, edit, and delete custom s-controls, custom objects, and custom tabs; - Rename tabs; - Manage custom apps; - Create and edit public calendars and resources; - Set up the console - Enable, set up, and modify the Customer Portal Many companies require different people to do varying amounts of administration. For example, at my current client, we'd like to allow the sales operations group the ability to administer lead assignment rules and queues without giving them the ability to configure objects or page layouts. We can't do this. This permission needs to be broken out into more granular groups of permissions. This may mean a separate permission for each item listed above or a logical grouping of the permissions listed above, so that companies can delegate "light administration activities" (e.g. assignment rules) without giving someone the ability to affect the schema.
monica_fernandez Jun 14	This is a must to do from my point of view. I can't understand why I have to give the permission to Customize application to create new values in one picklist of one object. It would be greate to give the permission to only modify that picklist.

trahman Aug 6	Very useful functionality..This way if you System Administrator can define which page layouts or objects the Power User with Customize Application selected can view.
