Need Sharing Rules for Activities
We need the ability to set up sharing rules for Activities. We have a need to run weekly reports that include our SalesReps expenses. To log their expenses, they create an event off of their home page with no contact, opportunity or Account associated to it. The user running the report is not always someone who has access to their information by default so we add them to a Public group with Sharing Rules set up. This allows them to view everything but the activities.

We have had this problem come up with regard to Contacts also. Need to be able to have sharing rules so multiple persons can edit. |

We have run into this limitation also. One workaround I have come up with is to create an account with our company name and enter a contact record for each employee. Although this would "work" it is not something that we have implemented at this point since it would require setting up not only a new user record for each new hire but also a new contact record, and one of our company initiatives is to avoid creating processes that involve duplicate data entry. So, instead, we are having users run the activity reports who are high enough in the role hierarchy so that all activities get included. All that said, having sharing rules for activities that would let us share these activities that are not associated with an account or contact would be great. |

Share Tasks
Currently there is no function to edit tasks which are assigned to another person. It would be very helpfull to allow other users to edit tasks. The easiest way would be to do this as an administrator, using public groups, but a function like the calendar sharing function would be a good start too.

It would be great if two users with the same Role could edit each others tasks. Maybe be able to create a sharing rule just for that particular role or on the individual user ID level that would allow it.

There is a feature in Winter 07 that can help with this. It's not as granular as Sharing Rules, but is a start. In the Organizational Sharing Defaults, you can choose either "Private" or "Controlled by Parent" for Activity access. Using "Private" is the same as its always been. It's based upon the role hierarchy. If you choose Controlled by Parent, then the Role Hierarchy is not involved. Instead, Salesforce will look at the data the Activity is associated with. The access a user has to that related data will be applied to the Activity. Thus, if 2 people can edit an Account, they'd both be able to edit the Activities associated with that Account.

In Winter ’07 we are introducing a new way to share Tasks and Events that should address most of what you are looking for.
