Create Product Schedules when adding Opportunity Products

All of our opportunities are required to have products and most of these products require a Revenue Schedule. Currently in the application, users have to add products to an opportunity and then go back to each individual product to create revenue schedules. Needless to say, we are constantly reminding users to assign revenue schedules because they forgot to go back and do it after the products have been added.

The addition of products and associated revenue schedules should be a lot more seamless. Users should be able to define revenue schedules when they are adding products to an opportunity.

eyewellse 11/24/06	One common solution to this is to define 1 product for each of the most popular schedules, and on each of the products, set the schedule as a default. So you could have the following for product A: Service A - 1 year ( monthly payments) Service A - 1 year ( quarterly payments ) Service A - 1 year ( semi-annual payments ) Service A - 1 year ( annual payments ) Service A - 2 years ( monthly payments) Service A - 2 years ( quarterly payments ) Service A - 2 years ( semi-annual payments ) Service A - 2 years ( annual payments ) The product date entered at the time the product is added to the opportunity already becomes the start date of the default schedule today. The pricebooks are designed to handle thousands of products/services, and the quick search box at the top of the screen, visible when adding products, will allow you to search on a few characters, to jump to the part of the pricebook that has the right product/service options.
AMartin 11/24/06	Nice workaround but it shows the limitations of this part of the application. Since our contracts can be up to 10 years long, that's a lot of variations of the same product in 3 currencies. It also limits the number of individual products that show up in the product list at one time. This makes it more likely the user will have to click "Save and More" instead of being able to select all necessary products at once. Users should have to click their mouse as few times as possible.
RikvdW 11/28/06	A nice aspect of this idea is that you immediately see that a product has a schedule when you add it. My sales reps do not always realize that a product has a default schedule, and when you add it to an opportunity it is not visible. The only way that you can see whether an opportunity has products with schedules, is to click on each product.
AMartin 11/28/06	You can customize the Opportunity Product Related list to show the column "Schedule". It's a boolean field displayed as a checkbox that indicates if the opportunity product has a revenue or quantity schedule. If you want your users to see if the product has a default schedule before they add it to the opportunity, you can add this information to the Product Description.
heatherp 10/05/07	Omigosh, we need this so bad. I'm having such a hard time convincing people to enter schedules because they are currently so time consuming and basically a pain in the booty! Salesforce, HELP - let's make this easier on our users and make this happen asap!

TheBoot Jul 9	I am struggling so much with Product Schedules right now also. I really need to be able to see and edit product Schedules all at the same time. I agree that they are way too buried.
happygirl Sep 10	I think that quantity scheduling is not that great of product because I could not close each schedule as they happened and also if I edited the Quantity it did not change the revenue based on the rate, however it changed my rate based on the quantity. It ultimately messed up all the data and I could not use it so I had to create 12 opps instead. Does anyone have any ideas.
