Freeze Column Headers in Reports
Issue: When viewing and scrolling down in a report with multiple rows, the data column header disappears.
Solution: It would be nice to allow some type of functionality that freezes the data column header so when a user scrolls down to the bottom of the report, the column header stays in place and only the data rows move.
In Excel, this is overcome by freezing the columns under Windows>Freeze Panes

Thanks for letting me know. I tried to search the entire Idea Exchange db and did not find it. I searched under reports. I think there is a suggestion to find duplicate requests within the Idea Exchange. |

It's still a good idea. |

Freeze Report Titles at Top of Page
I've had many requests from my users to freeze the report titles at the top of the page so that when you scroll down to see the data you can still see the column headings at the top of the page. This would be similar to "freeze panes" in excel.

Report Headers Visible when scrolling
Can you make the report headers static when scrolling down the report? Currenlty as you scroll down the detail the headers scroll up and out of visibility.

Oh, yes! How annoying is it to scroll through 2500 records to find the one you're looking for, and then not remember whether you're looking at sales price or weighted value? Argh.

Absolutely need to have this feature. Too many times I am running large amounts of data causing me to scroll up and down the screen. This would be a great addition to Salesforce. |

mhamberg1 01/18/07 |
Our sales users don't even like to use Salesforce BECAUSE OF the way these reports don't have a scrolling header. Definitely PROMOTE this idea! We need this done ASAP. |

Lock the header bar on a matrix report when scrolling down
I would like to see the ability to lock the header bars of matrix reports, to remain visible as you scroll down the page of a report. Currently, when you scroll down the headers are not visible and you are left trying to remember what header was on what column. (Equivalent to locking cells in Excel.)

Freeze Column Headers
How nice would it be to have the column header frozen up top so when you scrolled to the bottom of the screen, you still knew the type of data you were looking at without having to continually scroll to the top of the window.

I create a lot of LONGGGGG reports. This feature would definetly be an asset. :-) |

Oh please, oh please, oh please!!!!!! And do it soon!!! We are going crazy scrolling up and down trying to remember which coumn we are looking at!!! We really need this! |
|
KFret 04/03/07 |
Short-term solution: if it's hard for our users to remember which column is which in a report, one short-term solution could be to design reports that are easier to read. ;-) For example, if you have 9 number columns in a row, try breaking them into 3 sets of 3, with a checkbox column separating them (or some other logical grouping). Or better yet, find out what people are trying to do with that report, and strip away any data not needed for that particular task. |
|
KFret 04/03/07 |
Long-term solution: that being said, ;-) I love this idea. It would be nice if this header bar weren't done with a frameset. I wonder if this could be done by "floating" the header row in a similar way that the HTML e-mail editor bar (with the bold, italic, etc. buttons on it) floats as you scroll through the html e-mail you're sending. Or the way the field list floats along with you when you're editing a page layout. That would be an elegant solution. |

Remove/move User Header from Reports in Printable View
I'd like to have the user header that appears on the top of the Excel report (generated from the Printable View) to be placed at the bottom of the report and/or removed altogether.

It would be nice to have it at the bottom of the report so that when it is printed you have all the criteria for the report but it does not cloud everything up when you print the pages. Currently, this is seen as rather distracting by my senior management.

report column headings / titles to hover as you scroll down
add the ability to let the column headings from the top of some standard reports hover and move down the report as you scroll down the report. in many cases reports viewed online are very long and as soon as the data contained is longer than your screen view you lose the top headings of the report so as you scroll down the report you cannot see what the column data means. see screenshot attached

Definitely something that should have been in place since the report creation was enabled in SFDC - surprising that this still hasn't been done; would like to see this done at the earliest else people would need to resort to Microsoft Excel to freeze headers!!! |

As old as this request is, and as many "Merged Idea" entries I see, and as many VOTES as it has, I'm surprised this did not make it into this recent Summer release. Makes me wonder... does this "Idea Exchange" even work? Where can I go to see all the "Ideas" that were developed and released as a result of the "Idea Exchange" program. I don't want to waste my time if the program is not working... |
|
Kingsley 08/27/07 |
rguest, you can see the ideas that have been delivered at the following url: http://ideas.salesforce.com/popular/coming_in_summer_07 Going forward, each release will have a similar uri where you can see the ideas that have been delivered. Some ideas are just more difficult to deliver, but rest assured that our product managers read every one of these ideas, and delivering customer ideas from the IdeaExchange are one of the parameters they are evaluated on. |

rguest, you can see that the IdeaExchange does work... This is being demo'd right now at Dreamforce and will be released in the Winter'08 release. |

morley 10/02/07 |
Mark/tt: will this change also freeze column headers for custom lists and also lists in the console? That would be great. |
|
tt 10/04/07 |
this will only freeze the headers in the reports, and only on tabular reports to start with. |
|
jorgerbaker 10/19/07 |
Haven't got a chance to play with this in pre-release yet, but thanks for delivering tt, Kingsley and Mark. Don't let rguest getcha down - it is obvious you guys are delivering very well on these ideas. |
|
mda_tera 11/13/07 |
I was expecting this for all report types (tabular/summary/matrix). I understand how it would be more difficult for the matrix report type, but it would be really beneficial to have the headers freeze for the summary report type as well. |
|
Teixeira 11/14/07 |
too bad this is not for all report types |
|
WrogWrog 11/14/07 |
Ditto. It will actually be more confusing for my users to see floating headers on some reports and not others - they don't understand different report types - it's all just reports to them. This is like the summer 07 implementation of roll-up summary fields, part way there, but not enough to be really useful. |
|
tt 11/14/07 |
We're working to see if we can get a design for summary and matrix that: 1) doesn't confuse people, but helps them navigate 2) can be implementated on all the browsers (that means you, IE6 with your lack of support for fixed divs!). In the meantime, vote for the other idea about headers on summary and matrix. |
