We have 70 people in our organization using only Ubuntu Linux and Firefox. I'd like to add my support for this request. |

In 2006, I think it is pretty short-sighted to target IE specifically. |

IMO (and an opinion shared by a seeming large majority of users and developers), browser dependencies do not belong anywhere in an enterprise grade web application. |

Saleforce should not be tied into any browser. It is an online application after all. |

I only use IE for Salesforce because I have to merge, otherwise all browsing is handled through Firefox. I can't imagine why Salesforce wasn't on top of Firefox integration from day one. |

Mail merge support for Firefox would be fantastic!! |

This is even more important with IE7 running like a dog - we would like to advise our salespeople to use firefox which would solve many of their day to day opperational issues - but we cant because they need the mail merge facility. This needs to change!!! |

I understand that currently the merge templates are stored on the SF server but the actual merge action takes place on the client PC via SF's ActiveX control. Would not it be simpler to perform the merge on the SF server and then return the merged document to the client PC ? The mail merge will then be supported by all browsers and platforms. |

Please allow Macintosh users to send form letters to contacts. It is very important to my business. I need to send letters so I can close sales. |

Ok, I don't get it. I'm running Firefox 2.0 on XP Pro. I just got the Summer '07 release, went to a contact, clicked Mail Merge (under Activity History) and got the same old message: "This feature requires Internet Explorer for Windows 6.0 or higher on Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP." |
|
Jakester 08/14/07 |
I called the support line and learned that you must request Enhanced Mail Merge to be enabled for this to work. |
|
willtmc 09/13/07 |
Is there a way to request "Enhanced Mail Merge" without calling in? Did it work for you after you requested it? |
|
Cleverlad 11/13/07 |
The ONLY reason we're still using IE is because we can't mail merge from Firefox. |
|

What's with this "already released" malarkey? I'm running Firefox 2.0 as well, and can't seem to get it to work - it keeps telling me to use IE. |

Changed status to Delivered. |

I just tried this today and it tells me that I have to have IE to do mail merges to Word and I have no add-ons or extensions. This feature is not working for me. |

I see now that I read up that I'm supposed to get on the phone. Will that experience be like trying to order an additional license? It took four phone calls and three days. |

If you type Extended Mail Merge into the help search field you will find the instructions on how to enable Extended Mail Merge. It works from Firefox by emailing you the document. |
|

Why is this not enabled by default? Why does it send the document in an email? That's not very helpful at all. |

I would consider this sort of delivered. It would be great if it just worked if FF and didn't require emailing the mail merge file. |

I tend to agree that this is only an enhancement not a solution. Documents need to be rendered on demand. For SMB's at the mercy of slow ISPs a user should not have to wait 5-10 minutes to receive their merged doc. |

mpguti Jul 9 |
Please release it for Firefox 3.0 |
|
stevenbell Jul 24 |
Emailing the file is no solution. The feature needs to be browser independent. In fact, as someone mentioned above, as an enterprise web app, all salesforce functions need to be platform/browser independent. |
|
Jakester Jul 24 |
That sounds good, but it's also of course not realistic. Name one RIA that works exactly the same on Linux/Mac/PC and IE5/6/7, Firefox1/2/3, Safari, Opera... the list goes on. |

Our document merge service, LOOPlus, is compatible with Internet Explorer (all versions) and Firefox (all versions) on both PCs and Macs. LOOPlus merges Salesforce data into Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as PDF and returns one combined PDF that can be downloaded, emailed, or sent out for e-Signature. Search the AppExchange for LOOP. |

I agree, emailing the document is not a solution. It make the IE users that have been using mail merge change the way the work, to allow firefox users a way to email a form. I think firefox should work the same was IE does with mail merge (non enhanced). Also with enhanced mail merge, if the mail merge doc is over 1 mb, you will get an error message when trying to merge. this may be a SF error or even an Outlook error, but regardless, it's not a solution. |
