Recent [Object] Home page Default view
EVERY time I train people I ALWAYS get the confused question and looks when they click on [name any tab, accounts, leads, ...] and they're presented with this view.
When you see this what do you assume the values in that list relate to? Partner Open leads right? Wrong. They are your recently viewed. People don't see that drop down on the far right side where it says "Recenlty Viewed." EVERY, Every person I train has this issue.
What I would like to see is one of two things happen.
1) Get rid of that drop down on the right and just have the list reflect the first (10 or 25) records as the view states. This is the expected behavior.
2) Move that recent drop down to the left side of the screen so people see there are two drop downs and the values below belong to the second one.

Or allow me to configure a default view. For some of our users, there is a view that they always want to look at. The Recent items are irrelevant to them. |
|
Pramod 10/17/06 |
Agreed ... I also get this lot of times.. Both suggestions are excellent. |

Killian 10/18/06 |
There is no reason for the dropdown list on the Right Hand Side ... because "Recently Viewed" is already in the "View" drop down. I agree with Point 1 - get rid of the drop down on the right. Just make all views accessible via the "View" drop down. There would be less confusion for all users. |

I get this, too. I would welcome the default views. |

I'm one of the SFDC admins for my company (and a pretty smart guy too) and I fairly often get confused by this exact issue. I agree that the behavior is counter-intuitive and should be changed. |

melbrien 10/19/06 |
I would like the option to completely remove this section. Along these lines, I would like to have the option to customize the main screen for each tab - remove sections/report links or add new report links/default view settings per user. |

EricS 10/19/06 |
100% agree! |

PeterJCooper 10/22/06 |
Counter-intuitive is certainly the case... two drop downs driving behaviour on one result list. Why not find some way of merging the two drop down contents into one? |
|
AFroggatt 10/25/06 |
I agree with the counter intuitive remark (even tough I know this panel contains recent items, it the course of the day I often get the "huh those aren't my... Oh!" (momentarily sucked in) expereince). We would benefit greatly from a defult view in this section. |

NDeveloper 10/26/06 |
Agreed - the right hand pick list is confusing - particularly of someone has selected another option than recently viewed! Having "Recently Viewed" as an option on the standard view oicklist would work as well. |

Yes - change default view would be great! |

Hear hear! I've been banging on at SFDC support for 3 years about this totally confusing layout. What were they thinking? I think defining a default view or reverting to the last view would be the solution. Make "recently viewed" an option under ONE view dropdown. I will refrain from commenting on the plethora of dropdown view lists on the Products tab..... |

Greg_Altonji 06/15/07 |
Agree! The administrator should have options to customize what appears on each tab home page. |

Customize Opportunity Home Page
I would like to be able to modify the Opportunity Home Page (or any Tab sub-Home Page for that matter). The links to the reports are not useful (and are actually confusing to how we have trained our users).
This page should be as adjustable as the main Opportunity list and form pages. Either that, or the option to remove it and default to a view list instead would be an improvement. |

I completely agree. The default views for the tabs (account, contacts, opportunities, etc.) are completely useless and (as far as I can tell so far) completely unable to be modified. Either let us modify the default view on these tab pages or let us delete(or hide) them and use a custom tab instead.

In Summer '07, the ability to override the Tab Home Page with a custom s-control will let you determine what users see when they click on any standard or custom object tab. This is an extension of the Standard Buttons and Links functionality delivered in Winter '07. |

hmm. while the custom tab content is certainly a great feature, I don't think it's the same thing that this idea was requesting. IMHO this is still an issue and could still use some attention. Thanks! |

hi all, i'm glad to see that this feature has been released, but I'm not sure how to implement it. Basically all I want to do is have users see only their leads & accounts in their tabs by default. I looked up "Overriding Standard Buttons and Tab Home Pages" in the help, but it didn't seem to be helpful. can anyone direct me to some info on how to do this? Thanks! |

This feature has NOT been delivered. It's wrong of Salesforce to claim that it is. Being able to use Custom S-controls on the Tab home page has NOTHING to do with this usability issue. I would strongly argue that Salesforce.com needs to change the status on this Idea as "Delivered" is just wrong. This issue continues to confuse every level of user, from savvy admins to beginner data entry users. It needs to be addressed ASAP, and Salesforce shouldn't suggest anything technical like S-controls or VisualForce as a solution, because they just aren't an option for typical business users. |

Thanks, Alex - Salesforce, please resolve this issue! |

I am new to Salesforce - and this is obviously a feature that only people who are using the product would really need... People who are interested in purchasing SalesForce will not ask for it. So they have no incentive to change it. Saying they have it is obviously cheaper than actually having it. This product is at the end of its development cycle - this problem has been around for 2 years. The developers are gone. No new features will be be delivered. This is my first, and last, posting on this board. Clearly they do not read it. |

Great comment @forceme - A lot of us have similar frustrations. It seems like Salesforce.com isn't very interested in correcting some of the worst flaws in their core CRM functionality. Also, they often don't seem to listen to what we are REALLY asking for, and eventually deliver some other functionality that we don't need but try to tell us that it solves our problem. This "Recent Items" idea is a perfect example of that situation. Just to preempt any unacceptable responses to this issue, here are a list of suggestions that are NOT solutions for the "Recent Items" interface problem: - Custom S-control on tab home page - VisualForce - waiting for the next major SFDC interface redesign - more training for users - etc. Just implement a simple and elegant fix to this glaring and confusing user interface problem - SOON. |

I'm also befuddled by how this is "Delivered." Whatever custom S controls are, they don't sound like a simple user preference. 1) Let me set a personal default View for each tab. 2) Add "select one" as the first item on the Views drop-down, so it stops confusing us by showing the first saved View rather than the currently displayed one. |

While I agree with all of you that the Override-by-SControl feature released in Summer '07 is a bit overkill for the simple use case described here, I do want to point out that it is a valid solution to alter content on the tab overview pages, regardless of how little of the page you want to change, so don't massacre mscotton and falkdal just yet. :-) Having said that, my team is working on some very cool interface redesign work for tab overview pages in general, and this is a perfect use case for allowing customization at many levels, not just an all-or-nothing approach. I'll make sure to keep this on the burner when we start trying out new prototypes. Thanks for all the comments, and everybody have a great week. - E |

I couldn't agree more - I find myself explaining this very same thing all the time. It would be perfect if those items were just part of the regular list views on the tab. |
|

This issue doesn't need to be resolved with more customization capability - it is a simple user interface design gaffe that just needs to be eliminated. |

This would be so awesome. I don't want to know about S-Controls. I want a box, that says, "set default view". Then, whenever anyone clicks the tab, they get that view, unless they change it. Real simple, not complex. SControl me some simplicity please! :) |
