Change record owner while editing a record

It would be nice to be able to change record ownership while editing a record - lead, opportunity, account, etc.

It's a bunch of extra wasted clicks for the user to have to go back and click "change" to transfer record ownership.

Scott_Jorgensen 10/16/06	Agreed. You should be able to change owners from both the View and the Edit pages.
Christoph_K. 10/18/06	I think the reason for that is security settings. Before able to edit the record the system can so check who the user is and if he is allowed to... not sure but that's my guess

jgreene 02/14/07	Agreed. My users are constantly asking me how they change the owner. They don't realize that you can't do it from the "Edit" view.
JonV 03/20/07	Probably a good idea to have an Pop Up confirmation message to ask a user to positively confirm they mean to change the record owner to avoid slip of the mouse ownership changes.

rjez Jan 18	Merged Idea originally posted 08/13/07 Owner ID Field Should be Editable During Lead/Record Creation Currently, when entering new leads manually within salesforce.com, the owner ID for the new lead is assigned to that of the logged-on user entering the leads. While this may make sense for a sales representative entering their own leads, it DOES NOT make sense for a Trade Show, Marketing Communications, Public Relations, or other manager entering leads from an event (campaign) that need to be assigned to a different sales representative and NOT the person entering the leads. Yes, you can go and edit the owner ID AFTER the lead has been created, but this just adds un-necessary time and key strokes to the process. Yes, you can manually enter leads into an Excel spread sheet and create a .csv file, then use data loader to import them to salesforce.com, but this adds an extra un-necessary process. You SHOULD be able to manually enter a new lead and assign the correct owner ID in ONE step, not have to go through a bunch of extra keystrokes or processes! Change the owner ID field so tht it DEFAULTS to the loogged-on user, but can be edited from a pick list to another owner ID — AT THE TIME OF CREATION. THANKS!!
hemm Jan 18	Merged Comment originally posted 08/14/07 Totally agree. While I understand why it's separated today, it isn't logical to an end user. It's always cumbersome to change the owner. Perhaps a way to handle it is to allow the owner to be edited on the main edit page and then bounce them to another screen (or do some sort of popup form) that let's them specify the nuances of the transfer.

kimberlyj Jul 16	I agree with this issue. I enter several leads for the account executives in the field, and I used to change ownership the long way. I am now using the checkbox at the bottom of the edit lead screen where it says, "Assign using active assignment rule". It's really easy to set up and ownership is changed with just one click in the edit screen. I love it!
chiphilly 3 days ago	Our users are asking for this feature as well. Many times the user entering the information is not the 'owner'. I understand the security issue (based on various user roles/profile permissions). If there was a way to choose (or default) the owner upon creation of the record then, go back to the original setup, that would help tremendously. In other words, when you create a new record, the ability to choose the owner would appear on the edit page. After saving, you would only be able to change the owner from the view screen because there are other ownership decisions to be made.
