Run-Only Report User

A great feature planned for Winter '07 is the ability to lock down users so that they can only run reports. With this profile users cannot change a report (no editing or drill down for example). It's a permission available to administrators to help give them more control of how users interact with information. WrogWrog 11/09/06	This will be really really useful..... if you can find a way that users cannot just select the data on screen and cut and paste it into Excel. We've tried to lockdown reports already, and for us the issue is not whether people can drill down or customize, it's whether they can steal the data, which is still only Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V away.
AMartin 11/09/06	Even if you prevented a user from doing a Control-C, how could sfdc prevent users from doing a Print Screen or using a program such as Snag-It? If you don't want them to access other people's data, you could define a private sharing model so that they'll only be able to see their own data. Of course, if you don't trust them, don't hire them.
ttt 11/10/06	There are solutions to avoid the stealing of data but they need a full client product,and using overlay video layers to fool snapshot tools into taking pictures of the normal screen layers. If you are there, you'd better invest in tempest-style screening for the PCs and disconned it from the network, and not let users install any software on the machine, or they'll snoop network traffic and see the packets of data going along to the screen.
ErikM 11/18/06	The functionality would be even more valuable if you could define per report, who can edit it and if the org hierarchy drilldown is available. Because in many cases you may not want to take this ability away from a user for all reports, just for certain reports.
