Send Gmail and Add to Salesforce (like the Outlook plugin)
Any chance of a Salesforce-Gmail integration similar to the Outlook one? Not sure if this is possible via the web, so maybe it's a future request, but one I'd love to see.
Plus you can bet that if Google wants to really compete with MS Outlook, they'll need to have an offline version of Gmail - and I'd love for the Salesforce add-in to be ready for installing when it goes live. :-)

Sorry, that was supposed to be "Any chance..." |

Google doesn't have an API for Gmail yet so it' not possible but this is a great idea. |
|
Rasmus_Mencke 10/17/06 |
Great idea, if just Google exposed API's for gmail. An offline version of gmail working on blackberry's would be great too. |

Are you sure there is not a GMail API? Why do companies like Salesforce and Blackberry lock us into Microsoft? We needed a solution for Gmail yesterday. |
|
chris925 02/06/07 |
Totally agreed on the value, MPW, but unfortunately I think it's not Salesforce and Blackberry locking us into Microsoft... it's Google that lets Microsoft reap the benefits (for now). :-( |

There is a product on the AppExchange that does "One-click Gmail Composition". Its not the full functionality of the SFDC Outlook Edition, but its a start. Here is the https://www.salesforce.com/appexchange/detail_overview.jsp?NavCode__c=&id=a03... |

Integrate Gmail with SalesForce.com
The value of integrating Gmail with Salesforce.com comes from the ability to use the lead/contact tracking and database functionality of Salesforce.com in combination with the fluidity of Gmail, the large storage space for emails and the immediately accessibility to any email ever sent or any email subject.
What would be the constraints from a marketing/sales perspective for this? What resources would be required to make this link? Will Crist |

mash up sfdc with gmail pro version
The ability to eliminate outlook is highly desirable. It'd be great to see you cooperate across the board on making gmail compatible with sfdc for email associations with opps and sync'ing contact and dates. Your current requirement that pro version users have to upgrade all users to the enterprise--doubling the monthly fee--is impractical and not customer focused. Help us build the true web ecosystem that bring together all of my productivity functions.

There is currently no Gmail API we can use to mash-up gmail today. If google did provide API for gmail.com it would be a great opportunity to intergrate with salesforce.ocm

Rasmus,
Not so. A gmail mash up exists but requires the sfdc enterprise for access to sfdc's api. |

SalesForce "in sync" with gmail
I would love it if SalesForce worked in conjunction with gmail. I want to indulge in email blasts using my salesforce database, through my company gmail account.....too much to ask? I think it should happen!

Integrate Gmail with salesforce.com
Just like the Outlook 2.0 integration, I think you should integrate with the gmail, calendar and google documents. This would allow small business users to have some of the same mobile advantages of an Exchange server. You could still keep your personal calendar and emails out of salesforce.com, as you currently can with Outlook. I would love to have both in one place. Google/Gmail instead of Outlook.

I've merged several dupes into this older idea. |
|
AlexCRMmanager 04/12/07 |
Why don't you just create an AppExchange integration for Google Apps Premier? It offers an API for all of their "office" apps, as well as Gmail. This would be ideal for small businesses that don't want to have their own IT infrastructure, and would add weight to your "No Software!" battle http://www.google.com/a/enterprise/ |
|
rbrainard 04/23/07 |
I think that this would be a wonderful addition for all the small businesses out there that use Gmail for their company e-mail. With Google Apps now on the radar, it seems like it will only become more important. |

Please, please! help us get rid of this annoying Outlook! |

The GMail api listed doesn't seem to include anything that can access email, just do more administrative stuff, like managing users. |

There is a new product called OrangeMafia on the AppExchange that saves emails from Gmail, Blackberry, and many other email applications. It requires no install and has a free version. |

I've merged several dupes and comments into this Gmail+Salesforce integration idea. Ive also added imagery as to how this might be implemented in the short term. (1) Integration of gmails as activities logged to lead/contact records. This could happen via bcc: a unique salesforce inbound email address or a "Send Gmail and Add to Salesforce" button in a bookmarklet/toolbar. Conflicts could be resolved via email forms. See image associated with this idea. (2) "Send Gmail" links/buttons on salesforce screens. For example, on the lead object we could include "Send Gmail" links that not only launch the Gmail compose window, but automatically configure that window to log a sent Gmail as an activity record on that lead/contact record. |
|
ryan_mm 11/21/07 |
Actually the cool idea here is not tired to gmail at all. It's the concept of having a generic email address you could bcc all customer emails to which would look up that contact by email id and add the email to that contact's activity history. Could this be done? |

Add hotmail and yahoo to this want. High level SFDC executives should take the yahoo, google, or microsoft guys out golfing and get this done.. it would be HUGE. |

The Send Gmail button is a reality - look at the Contact Related List layout and you'll see the button. Well, you'll see the option to display it, but it's not actually on the page layout. Hint of things to come...? |
|
StevenRothberg Apr 2 |
I'm also really interested in rolling this out to our SF Unlimited group so that we no longer will be tethered to our own computers but can make full use of SFDC from any computer. I don't understand dschach's posting on 3/7 that the Send Gmail button is a reality. Where is the Contact Related List? And if this is just a hint of things to come then how is this a reality? Is dschach saying that it is a reality that SFDC and Google are working on this or that it has gone live? |

The original request was started "Any chance of a Salesforce-Gmail integration similar to the Outlook one?" What has been delivered is a handy v1, but I hope there are plans for a far more powerful version which at least enables the association of messages with Accounts/Opportunities etc. |

We need the same functionalities that we have using connect for outlook in gmail. This is the only reason why we haven't migrated to using google apps |

I inquired about this capability for precisely the same reason you state. I'd really like to eliminate outlook entirely (buggy, memory hog, prone to crashing and or slowing down everything on my pc), but I can't because I still need to sync with my blackberry...which now requires a sfdc-outlook-intelisync to 'berry process. Ugh!
