New Business Web Desktop (Winter '07)

With Winter ’07, Salesforce.com plans to deliver a new desktop console that enables users to customize their Salesforce desktop with multiple application components. These components include activities, opportunities, leads, campaigns, or other objects, including custom objects. With a customized desktop, users will be more productive than ever in accessing all the information they need on a single screen. The user interface relies heavily on a dynamic Ajax interface to deliver a powerful and productive user experience.

GuinnessIsGood Phoenix, AZ 09/06/06	I've seen the new console through usability testing and though I can't comment on it, it looks great. As a user of the Agent Console since Winter 06, I see this is going to be a great improvement for all users.

Larry Robinson San Francisco, CA 09/06/06	The feature is included in the standard pricing for all editions of Salesforce.com. Very glad to see the great feedback. We have made many enhancements over our Pilot release, they include: * A new optimized tighter skin to get more data on screen at once. * Layouts can be configured and assigned to profiles. * List views for any object in Salesforce.com can be accessed. * The panes all maintain consistency when updating information and the list view reflects which rows have been updated. * The list uses an AJAX process in the background to alert you that the list needs to be refreshed when the contents have changed on the server. * The list now includes mass actions. * The right hand side pane automatically collapses when there is no content to show, maximizing the real estate for the objects on screen. * Related lists can be expanded in place rather than take you to a new screen of the related list items, this makes the desktop much more dynamic and maintains context.

Larry Robinson San Francisco, CA 09/06/06	This is available in Classic interface, but works best in the new UI skin... its just a click away for all your users :-). Users cannot modify their one UI, but they can setup their own list views. Users can customize which related lists they see on page layouts and this applies to mini layouts too. Admins configure page layouts and mini page layouts and assign them to profiles and record types - same as for the rest of the application, so you can create a very personalized experience for your users.
Chris Murphy Denver, CO 09/07/06	Will it be possible to display a report in the top window so that users can use the console to efficiently conduct prospecting activities? (top window= leads not called in 90 days, main window= lead/contact record, right mini= log a call)
Peter Fairport, NY 09/07/06	Very nice! We're setting up a call center in which this functionality will be indispensable. We can't do it very efficiently right now with the current layout, and we look forward to using the new functionality!

felix Minneapolis, MN 09/11/06	The AJAX feature will be a very nice plus - currently we have explain to our sales guys why things have to do post-backs and the refresh etc.
lrobinson 09/11/06	We don't support reports in the top window... but you can easily define a list view as you suggest, 'Leads not called in 90 days' and then work that list.
Joe Sunnyvale, CA 09/13/06	I see that the home page is still on the screen and that this is a new tab. Is there any way to remove the home page and use this new console instead, or at least have this be the active page when all users login?

guest Brooklyn, NY 09/14/06	This looks terrific. A capability we've needed for a long time. Will view definitions allow us to select based on account/opportunity owner and teams? We desparately need the ability for sales to easily display (and not as a report, but as a view) all accounts (same for opportunities) where the user is the owner OR on the account team. Currently, the account team child table is not available for view definitions.
lrobinson 09/19/06	In the Winter release, we will be adding the Console as a separate Tab, it will not replace the Home tab, but that has been discussed. List views will allow all the same list view capabilities in the application. In fact the Console simply reuses the existing list view definitions. We don't support lists on objects based on filter criteria on child objects.
mouimet Dayton, NJ 09/21/06	I would like to be able to see the desktop with all of my top clients in one window and perhaps have a notation re: last date of interaction. If I go down the list and find that my last interaction has been some time ago, I need to make that call.
Linda East Lansing, MI 09/26/06	Is there any other way to view account teams/opportunity teams other than through reports - same comment as guest/ Brooklyn, NY Sep 14. We are more interested in who is on the team vs. who owns the account.

Larry_Robinson 11/14/06	Administrators can define multiple console layouts and assign them to different profiles. But currently, each profile can only have one console. The Console view will not replace the Home page in the near future, but that is certainly an idea we have discussed. Thanks for the suggestions.

Soutter 06/01/07	This doesn't solve the problem of being able to automatically process information on email to case or SSP submitted cases on arrival based on information that lives in the account or the asset. keep working on it guys.
