Reminders (Winter '07)
Salesforce.com plans to incoporate new reminder functionality that notifies users when they have calendar events and tasks that are due. Reminders automatically open a popup window and plays a sound when events and tasks that are due. Users can click on the reminder to access the full event record in Salesforce. Dismiss and snooze functions are also available.

I was very surprised when it was not a part of the initial package. Good to see we have got around to getting some votes on it. Now lets go and get it implemented.

This new feature will be a great additon. Will it be possible to customize what appears in the pop up reminder? for example could we customize it and add the type column to show what type of event or task is due?

This has real use in our business model here, our call center folks will use this! Also hope to see it customizable by type!

My users will love this - one of our bigger requests. Can't wait to see release at SalesForce.

Great feature! Idea: add "Completed" button/buttons that close selected tasks. Alternatively, an "X" link could be placed next to each task, just like the Home tab Task list. This wold minimize clicks.

Thank you...thank you. I am so happy to see this coming soon. GREAT idea MikeR from San Fran! That would be an added bonus to this addition on the next release.

I want to be able to make these reminders PRIVATE. Nobody else in my org. needs to know that I have to call back John Doe on a certain date/time. Will that feature be incorporated?

Great stuff! Many of my customers are asking for this. It will avoid a workaround using a report with past due items.

Anyone who uses Outlook knows what a great feature the Reminder is. This is a must have for SFDC.

Would be even more useful if we could enter a time for reminder on the task!! what happens if someone has 20 tasks scheduled for a single day? does the reminder give them all at once?Useful never the less! |
|
Jabbott 10/13/06 |
Does this mean that we will be able to schedule tasks by time? If so, will tasks be sorted by time on the home page and will there be an activity conflict reminder? Will the feature remind the user before the task is overdue (the sample screen shot shows only overdue tasks)? |

This really is a fantastic feature which we look forward to have it ASAP |

Thanks for all the great comments on Reminders. As this is the all-time most requested feature I am very excited for it to be released as part of Winter ’07. In response to the comments so far: * Carol Stoltenberg - It is not possible to customize the columns to show in the popup reminder. In the header area of the popup window we are showing the following for each activity: Date/Time of the Activity, Location for Events (if filled in), Related To (if filled in), Name (if filled in) We are considering additional configuration options for next year. Please add an idea to the Activity Management category of http://ideas.salesforce.com/ * Maura – what do you mean “customizable by type”? * MikeR – great idea. Can you add this idea to the Activity Management category of http://ideas.salesforce.com/ * Greg – we don’t really have the notion of private reminders. But if an activity is not associated to another record (Related To and Name are blank) no one else can see your activities and associated reminders. * Vincent– Tasks have both reminder date and time. So you can set the reminder for a task to popup at whatever time you want. * Jabbott – As I mention above, Tasks have both a reminder date and time. So in a way you can schedule tasks by time. But the task list on the home page will not use the reminder time when sorting. If you want to use the reminder date/time to sort tasks you need to add the “Reminder Date/Time” field to your Activity List views. Reminders will pop when the reminder is due. For events this is anywhere from 5 minutes to 4 days before the start time of the event. For tasks, the reminder date/time doest not need to be the same as the task due date. For example, I was a speaker at Dreamforce and needed to have my presentation done by 9/9/06. But I knew I needed time to work on this task. In Winter ’07 I can setup a task with a due date of 9/9/06 but reminder date/time of 9/1/06 10 AM. This way my reminder pops a week before my task is due. We have not done anything about reminder conflict resolution. |

I assume you would need to be logged in to Salesforce.com to receive these reminders? Our sales reps all have Smart Phones with Pocket Outlook and they are wirelessly synched to our Exchange 2003 server. Can these reminders somehow be tied to the real Outlook reminders, if not directly, then somehow through the Outlook Add-in integration? |
|
Jabbott 10/22/06 |
Thanks for clearing that up! Will the New Business Web Desktop sort these tasks by time? |

Great. This is a area where information needs a 'push' into visibility. Mobile alerts would be a logical next step. |

I agree - My Users would find this useful! |

Great news. I asked my administrator for this months ago. Once implemented I will not have to rely on my Outlook Tasks and Reminders. Because Salesforce did not have this option I was forced to go back and forth. |

Great , we noticed this missing and would find this quite useful. We are looking forward to it. |

An option for an automatically generated email reminder, to the CE/task owner, would be great. |

What about the pop up blockers that are built into all the browsers these days? Will this prevent the window from being displayed? |
|
mtlcanuck 12/19/06 |
Will this functionality work on a Dell Axim x50 using SalesAnywhere? This is a huge hurdle in getting complaince with our team. They enter appointments in outlook rather than SFDC and then "forget" to note them on the opportunities. |
