Currently the Today merge field can only display the date numerically. Although there are multiple ways that the date can be displayed (e.g. with or without the time; month or day first; whether or not to include the year), there is not an option to spell out the name of the month. We would like that option, particularly for our customer-facing templates. That is we would like an option to display the date as January 20, 2008 instead of 1/20/08.

A current workaround for merge documents is the Word function: { DATE \@ "MMMM d, yyyy" } but there are aspects of this workaround that can be confusing to users.
