More granular administration (and delegated administration)

It would be very useful if it were possible to give a Delegated Admin permissions to manage public folders/dashboards/ etc. just for users in their branch of the Role hierarchy.

The type of entity we were thinking of are:
Report Folders
Dashboard Folders
Template Folders
Document Folders
List Views

At the moment permissions like this are simply either on or off and it is not possible to give admins access just to specific records.s

TimMadigan Jan 16	Having delegated Admin towards standard objects would be great. beyond the list shown, allowing the Contract Manager administer the rights to their area, along with add fields as necessary, would be very helpful

at Mar 10	MUST have admin feature. We want to grant "manage public reports" to our delegated admins, BUT don't want them still to modify all standard reports that central administration team has created. List could also include access to "user login history" of delegated admin's area.
mark_silber Mar 24	We would also like to allow some modifications to the standard objects, such as picklists for Cases, but not give admin righs in general.
SFAdmin May 8	Great idea. We would find this extremely helpful when it comes to reports. Currently only the administration can delete reports or make changes to an existing report and save it with the same name under a public reports folder.

jennyef Sep 23	Great idea. I would want to set up more granular administration to other users. They can take certain actions such as update IP range. It is important for multi-national companies and be able to cover different timezones.
atorman Oct 6	Would it be helpful to control this at an object level - for instance, the ability to manage list views just for Accounts but not for any other objects or the ability to selectively ignore sharing rules for reporting on just Opportunities or deduplicating just leads?
jennyef Oct 7	1) yes i want to delegate admin right at an object level so that one can only manage one object such as opportunity. I would also need some delegation in user part such as udpate IP address (the current delegated administration can only create and close user accounts; we need somone to update IP address in certain profiles if an emergency happens in the other side of the world; 2) if we can have different levels of administrator, some changes can only be made by one senior administrator (such as validation rules) while junior administrator can make other setup changes. aaronb Nov 20	We struggle a lot with the all or nothing access that is required for things like managing Content workspaces. In order to manage them you need full customize application access which gives rights to modify everything. Another issue some users want to view reports on login history or simply view a person's profile setting, but in order to do this we have to give the full manage users option. Because of the lack of granular controls we are exposed by having to give users more access than they need. Also the profile, role concept is very limiting. A user should be able to belong to multiple profiles or roles depending on what they need access to. If you have many applications that need to be restricted to certain groups of people you have to create new profiles. For example if you have 2 application A and B. You may want give a certain group access to just A, another just access to B, and another access to Both. So today you have to create 3 separate profiles. Now when the next app comes C. You proliferate your profiles creating different combinations. It would be nice to have users belong to multiple profiles or roles without having to move them around.

CKZhou Nov 27	Please!!! it kills me when I have to go to EACH individual profile to modify the setting for a custom object, or for record types.....
