This is the corner stone of the community to allow groups, topics to present them to you. The system needs to be aware of who you are, what skill levels (like the type of certifications you hold) and the type of user. However it also needs to have an area for your interest. --- In having such detail profiling will allow for pairing or matching of all types of different interest.

If I wasn't a member of the Community 3.0 Facebook Group, I might not understand what this IdeaExchange idea was all about -- so I'll expand on Pete's post above: COMMUNITY FORUMS: (http://community.salesforce.com/sforce/) Today, when you access the Community Forums, it's easy to get lost in the mass of threads and activity taking place there. Some forums cater to developers, some cater to power users, some cater to administrators, some cater to non-profits, etc. Particularly for new Salesforce.com users (and even sometimes for us veterans), it can be difficult determining who your peers are, what forums are best suited for your topic, and what threads you should be following based on your skill-level and interests. Although your Community Forums user profile includes some basic identity information (location, industry, primary Salesforce.com role), the data isn't used by the message board tool to help filter information for you. It would be great, for instance, if a user could flag that one of their personal interests was "Dashboards", and that whenever they visited the boards, they could easily see at a glance all the new threads or posts that had been tagged as "Dashboards". This isn't meant to be the same concept as tagging. Tagging is more helpful as a search tool, where as this System Identification feature would be used to push related information to users in the community, based on user-selected information in their profile. Would you like to see all the users in your local area code who participate in the forums? Would it be helpful to identify other users who are in the same vertical industry (high tech, manufacturing, telecommunications, banking) as yourself? Want to see all the users who just completed the Level II admin certification, so you can pick their brain on what the test was like? This Idea helps with all of that. It's about bringing Social Media to the Salesforce Community. Like any Social Media tool, all of the information would be voluntary / Opt In. The idea is to provide a mechanism that serves as the frame work for improving the way users find and search for relevant discussions, groups, and/or individuals within the Community Forums. |
