Graveyard Contacts

Hello, in many other CRM's I have worked in there is the ability to graveyard a contact.

This allows you to keep the information on the contact in the account however it will show up at the bottom of a the contacts list in an account in italic or grayed out. This will stop possible imports of bad information from a lead source (Hoovers, OneSource) and minimize wasted time for employees.

Only solution as stated by support is to delete the contact.

A possible check box would work as long as functionality brings it to the bottom of the Contact List or even just puts it into italics without sorting.

mcrosby 11/06/08	We've implemented a contact "Status" field and a corresponding status icon (red image if the contact is Inactive, green if it is Active). The status icon is shown in the related list view and helps our users distinguish between current and old contacts. This also helps with filtering out inactive contacts in reports and emails. With that said, it would be nice if the functionality was available out-of-the-box from SFDC.
adminisaurusrex 11/06/08	I'd like to say right here that a contact record should never be deleted. Did a SFDC help desk rep actually tell you to do so? For historical reporting and to avoid reimporting the contact at a later date from a new list are only a few of the many reasons to retain this data. That said, we have also struggled with what to do with inactive contacts. We've tried placing "ZZZ" before and after the first and last name. Doing so will certainly put all inactive contacts at the bottom of your alphabetically arranged contact list. But this method is clunky and just plain wrong. Creating a field for the status would also be good. But in adition to that, it would be best if we could, as Captain Question Marks says in the original idea post, format the contact name by our own design. Sorry to all for the rant, but this is an important db issue.
steve_andersen 11/14/08	Great idea. We're using a checkbox and workflow for this but would be great to have a better way.
alliforce 11/18/08	We use an 'Inactive Contact' checkbox to filter on reports and view. However, I would like to see the inactive flagged records omitted from Contact lookups also.
