Support "Comments" field type for Custom Objects

Cases are the only object type which supports running "Comments" field type. It would be very helpful to be able to have this sort of a historical commentary available for Custom Objects.

Currently to mimic this functionality my company must use a Text Area (Long) and ask its employees to include their initials and the date in any comment they add to the text area. This is unwieldy.

You can roll your own on this one. Here's how:

I have a field on the opportunity called pipeline comment.

Field Update
------------
Name: Time Stamp Pipeline Comment

Field to Update: Opportunity: Pipeline Comment

Type: Formula

Formula: $User.Alias & "@" & TEXT( NOW() ) & BR() & Pipeline_Comment__c

Workflow Rule
-------------

Name: Pipeline Comment Changed

Object: Opportunity

Evaluation Criteria: Every time a record is created or edited

Rule Criteria: ISCHANGED(Pipeline_Comment__c)

Presto.
