Roll-up Summary for non-numeric fields

At the moment the roll-up summary fields are available to sum, count, and obtain minimum and maximum. I would find it very useful if it was also possible to use roll-up summaries with non-numeric fields, e.g. fields containing text values. The roll-up would allow me to find the value with the lowest alphabetical content, or highest alphabetical content when the items being summarized are sorted in alphabetical order.

happygirl 10/20/08	I think this would be useful on date values like the last comment.
TimAlsop 10/20/08	Roll-up summaries already work on dates, as the date is considered to be numeric. I use this to find oldest or newest dates in related list items.
happygirl 10/21/08	Yes, however you can only return the last date not roll up the last comment itself. So I am looking for some additional features where it allows you to roll up a field based on a date does that make sense? Example: Roll-Up the Last Comment on a Case I would love that!
TimAlsop 10/21/08	I think your idea is different to mine. You are asking to be able to use a roll-up to get the case comment item which has the latest date, and then access other fields from this case comment record such as the comment text. Is this corret ? In contrast, I want to use roll-up summary fields to get highest or lowest non-numeric value, just like I can use MIN or MAX at moment with numeric fields. This might be implemented by having AMIN and AMAX (alphabetic minimum/maximum) in addition to COUNT, MIN, MAX etc.
