Data cleansing tool for duplicate records
Tools for finding duplicate records that already exist across all data for an object and then cleaning up the duplicates by merging and deleting. Have a background process that finds all duplicates and provides the list to an appropriate person, along with tools to merge duplicates, delete records, etc.

I have proposed an idea like this which SQL Server calls Fuzzy Logic. basically any data that looks similar will be flagged up and ask the use if it is actually the same data or is it different... An example of this could be used for countries... UK, GB, England, United Kingdom etc... This could all be changed to a default value (like UK) automatically. So that when this Fuzzy Logic was run by an administrator that it would remember the rules and fix the data so that the default value replaced the values that were entered. |

It's a little frustrating to see this idea "broken out" from the original "Dupe Alerts" idea originally posted on 10.05.06. The need for a better Data Cleansing Tool is probably responsible for 50% (or more) of the 36,000+ votes cast for "Dupe Alerts". Now it feels like after 2 years, and thousands of votes we have to start all over again. |

I agree with Stevemo, I think as users what we are trying to say is (1) idea not two and it should encompass two simple thoughts. 1. Alert for Duplicates Leads, Accounts, Contacts 2. De-Duplication Tool (Because Salesforce.com had no solution for #1 we all now have REALLY messy databases) All the posts from our suggestions give you a good perspective on how the end user would like to see this executed. I personally would try to buy the Diamond Data technology. Love it. Bells and whistles would be things such as data enrichment such as postal codes, etc. |

Found a really great software for deduping and cleaning records on the fly. Uses fuzzy logic and is a lot faster than anything else I tried. It's called DataMatch at http://www.dataladder.com/ Has some intuitive data cleansing techniques like 10,000 nicknames for matching, email cleansing, a acool interface for regular expressions building that even I could figure out. |

I think that although these two ideas have the same aim, they are different. As entering a new account and it flagging it up is very different from mass data import cleansing; aka Fuzzy Logic. both these tools should be incorporated into the salesforce tool or there should be some functionality that allows users to write reports bases on properties rather than custom filters... i.e. show all accounts with the same 5 characters and the same country etc... Then the administrator could cleanse the data from there. |
