Find duplicates on-demand for any object
Today you can find duplicate Leads from a lead detail page. Extend this kind of functionality to other objects, so that you can find potential duplicate records of any type from a detail page.

Would like a 'Find Duplicates' button on the Contacts page
Similar to the 'Find Duplicates' button on the Leads page, I would like to have the same button on the Contacts page. There is a 'Merge Contacts' button in the Account view when you scroll down to the contacts section, but that will only show you the contacts (and potential duplicates) at the given account...not across accounts. A 'Find Duplicates' button would enable users to more efficiently find duplicate contact records in the system, and then users could merge the duplicates they find. Again, I'd like to see the same functionality for the Contacts page that already exists for the Leads page. I was surprised to find that this does not already exist.

yep agree - allowing these buttons to be optionally added to a page layout would be great.

Yes, especially when AppExchange type leads originating from the AppExchange come directly into SFDC without any deduplication, it is invaluable to find duplicates on the contact object where a lead is already a progressed contact.

Would be lots of help. IT would be really nice if it could find similar wordings in case of a spelling error.

Find Duplicates on Account Record
Have the "find duplicates” button on the account record not just the lead record. Our company is getting away from using leads due to the additional functionality on the Accounts page...but some functionality from leads is not available on the account page. "Find Duplicates" is a very helpful one for our reps.

yes, I am surprized it is not part of the core functionality. Hopefully we can get it on the roadmap!

What shortcomings do you see with "Merge Accounts" https://na1.salesforce.com/help/doc/en/account_merge.htm ?

You can create your own Find Duplicates button using the code above. |

The short comings I see with merging accounts is how many accounts you can merge, which data you see and overall it is a SLOW process if you are merging so many records. For example, we have 250,000 accounts, how do you merge Accounts in that case. You have to manually click each account and then merge them. I think they should have a De-Duplication Tab that you can run views to de-duplicate your data and have it merge many records. Just a thought! This tab should be universal for Accounts/Contacts and Leads

Data on accounts and contacts it's supposed to be "clean", but when data has been imported from a previously existing corporate system this duplicate thing can occour easily. Mapping data structures between Salesforce and a previously existing system can result in duplicates that need to be merged!
