I want a custom field which is similar to "Last Modified By"

If I look at the data type for standard fields such as "Last Modified By" or "Created By" then I see Lookup(User). When I look at an opportunity or account that uses a field like this, the user, as well as the date and time are shown. If I create my own custom field which is using Lookup(User) as the data type, I only see user when this field is displayed on a page.

Obviously I can solve this by creating two custom fields, one which is Lookup(User) and the other which is Date/Time. This is not ideal since I would prefer to have the user and the date/time in same field so that they are displayed in same space on page, just like they are for the Created By and Last Modified By fields.

Scott_Jorgensen 10/06/08	You can get pretty close to what you want by using a Formula Field. Text Formula Fields can use the Hyperlink function to display as a click-able link...just like "Last Modified By" The formula would be something close to this: HYPERLINK("User.DetailLink", "User.Name" & "Date") Note:... the formula above is written to be easy to read and probably isn't entirely valid.
TimAlsop 10/06/08	Scott, ok, so I would need a total of 3 custom fields ? One to store the user, one for the date/time, and one formula field which will appear on page layouts and show the name and date next to each other (as you have explained). I will try this, but I feel it would be better if it was possible to do this with one field, not 3. Thanks, Tim
TimAlsop 10/06/08	Scott, I tried: HYPERLINK(CreatedById, CreatedById) & ", " & TEXT(CreatedDate) And this shows: 005400000016LQR, 2008-09-09 06:25:09Z A few problems with this: 1. The actual user is not shown 2. The date format is not same as date format shown elsewhere in my salesforce instance. Thanks, Tim
