yes, I agree. A basic quoting application should also be included so that quotes can be created, edited and turned into PDF quotes before sending to client. |

Include Quote application in standard SFA
The quotation application, previously made available via some JS code and now part as an example in the Apex manual, should be part of the standard Salesforce.com SFA application.
This functionality is vital to us, and including it in the standard application among other things ensure, that Salesforce.com manage updates and translations to other languages. |

agree - its a good app - would like to see the integration of Print Anything or mail merge as part of the app as well - so we can take these internal quotes and send them to customers

I would also like the app to include support for tiered-pricing, or pricing based on a forumala field. For example, I have a product, that I want to include in quotes and sometimes I want the price to be calculated using list price * quantity. Other times I want to use a formula based on quantity and list-price to compute the quote price for that line item. Also, I sell enterprise licenses for this product and the price is therefore a fixed price, not based on quantity or list price.

Completely agree - something like the "Subscription Summary" section which includes Invoices and Orders

From the Opportunity it would be nice to have simple Purchase Order, Quote, Invoice and delivery note solution

There is a free application on the AppExchange that provides simple quotes for Opportunities:

Thank you Scott. The idea exchange is a great thing for the very fact that you can tell me this.
Now we need a way for cturner to be able to yank this idea from the list. |

It's nice that it got resolved, and especially nice that it was an AppExchange App that solved it, but why would you wnat to yank the idea? I think it's great that other users will be able to find it now.

You're right Kingsley, I didn't think that all the way through. It is good the idea will remain for others to find, although it would be nice for the author to be able to update it to show there is a solution.

It would also be nice to hear from cturner to find out if the appexchange app meets his needs for quoting. I tried it and it is not able to meet my needs, because my products are priced based on tiered-pricing, and the tool only supports simple (list price*quantity)-discount.

Integrated Simple Quotation with Products Module
The Salesforce Products module which is extra or included with Enterprise should absolutely include at least a basic Quote generation system.
Users looking to get up & running fast may not want to deal with making a template & mail merging, needless to say that this method is also missing features & is a bit of a work-around. |

Am I missing something with this idea? Any quote system I've seen in the AppExchange is way too complicated to setup, deploy & use.
I'm realizing daily how important this feature enhancement should be, in my opinion. Anyone agree? Disagree? Any ideas? |

We spent a few years looking at different apps available on appexchange, and eventually decided to build our own quote application using apex and visualforce - it only took about 2 weeks for initial development and now we are adding enhancements, and hope to start using it in a few weeks time. We made it support discounts, multiple pricing methods for each product, product dependancies, maintenance and support (e.g. price based on %age of product price) ... I am mentioning this because I wanted to make it clear how easy it is to build such an application. I fully understand how hard it would be for salesforce to build this into their standard product - most companies that want quoting functionality have different needs, and no two customers are same ... It is therefore hard to build a generic quote tool. |

Great answers, indeed! The thing is, we face many customers willing to automate the entire sales cycle and quoting is a key stage. Following steps (such as ordering) can be a good idea as well, but for now there would be quite great to have salesforce providing quoting without having to implement it with an AppExchange partner, right? |

All tools need in the sales process should be possible to create within sales force without any programming skills. All other CRM tools can create quotes out of the box. |
