Currently, the Email Bounce Tracking does not mark email address as bad if they have an invalid domain name (this was confirmed by a Salesforce.com support engineer). Email Bounce Tracking only works when it gets a response from a mail server that an email address doesn't exist in that domain. However, I would argue that a large number of bad email addresses are because of mis-keyed domain names, not just invalid mailboxes. Salesforce needs to expand this feature to flag email addresses with invalid domain names.
