Context Driven Setup Link
This idea piggy backs on the much requested idea for links directly from an object's tab to the object configuration: http://ideas.salesforce.com/article/show/99937/Single_Click_Access_to_Object_...
Since the left-hand menu already provides access to all set up configuration options, why not make the setup link itself go to whatever page makes the most sense based on where the user is coming from. If they're on the account tab view, it would go to the account custom object. If they're on opportunities, likewise. If they're on a visualforce page and have access it could go to the visualforce page setup record.
Where the page or the user's permissions don't yield a relevant setup view, it would default to the standard personal setup view.
This could be tied to a single user-option 'use context-sensitive setup' that defaults to off for profiles without customization privileges and on to those with them.
