Enhanced Workflow Evalutation Criteria
It would be nice if some added functionality was available when creating workflows. Seems the only time a regular workflow can kick off is if the record is created or edited. This is not good for "quasi" time-based workflows (i.e. send a notification when the date in a certain field reaches a pre-determined date - 2 days before X). It would be nice if a workflow rule could be evaluated at some specified time interval (i.e every 24 hours or every Monday at 7am, etc). It would be really nice if workflows could be evaluated "on the fly" (according to some real-time criteria).
Time-based workflows don't really solve this since once a time-base workflow is triggered, the record is locked and can't be altered until the workflow has run it's course. This is a headache for things like lead escalations (i.e. if a lead is locked into a workflow, it can't be converted until the workflow runs its course)

Hi - You might want to look at optimizer add-on solution (www.synchosoft.com) which includes a powerful service infrastructure to enable the functionality you are looking for. Cheers, Venki. |

It seems to me that Time-Based workflow already does exactly what you want... they fire without the user editing the record. The trouble seems to be with a lack of flexibility on Lead Conversion. One simple workaround for dealing with Lead Conversion that might work is to put a criteria into your Time-Based workflow rules on Leads that will allow them to be converted. For example: Lead Status 'does not equal' Qualified Have your reps set the status "Qualified" prior to converting the lead and your pending workflow actions will be canceled...the lead will be converted as desired. Do you think we should revise the text of the idea to reflect the limitation on leads or is there more to than this? |

Scott, The problem is that once the workflow fires off there doesn't seem to be anything that can be done to "end it early". I tried your suggestion in my sandbox and still get the same errors (Error: Unable to convert lead that is in use by workflow). If I try changing the value taht triggers the workflow all kinds of error fire up. Any ideas? |
