Searching in SalesForce Ideas

In SalesForce Ideas, it would be great if there was a search bar at the top of all the pages. People don't realize that they can use the sidebar to search for existing ideas.

Also, if you use this search bar, it should show the results of the search similar to ideas exchange search results. It should list all the ideas with summary information and the vote buttons. It should also keep within the format of the ideas section. Currently when you search for an idea in the sidebar, you can't vote for the idea directly from the results screen.

njdevilsfan 08/27/08	Any update on this idea? People still don't realize that they can use the search bar on the left to search for ideas. In fact, someone even posted an idea that was "be able to search through ideas", and it's gotten alot of votes in our community. But even if they used the sidebar, the way the search results are displayed needs to be fixed.
JG 09/04/08	This isn't part of the Winter '09 release but you could create your own UI in visualforce with a more prominent search box. I really like the idea but we left it in the side bar to comply with the standard Salesforce UI conventions. At some point in the not so distant future I have a feeling the Salesforce UI will get overhauled so that there is a global search and a more prominent tab specific search.
njdevilsfan 09/05/08	Thanks for the response. I figured it didn't make it into winter '09 but it's good to know that you guys at least like the idea and have it on your radar. One thing to add though, I'm not sure that a standard tab specific search would really be what I'm looking for here because what's also very important is how the results of the search are displayed. Today, if you search using the sidebar the idea results aren't displayed very well. Like the idea says, it should display results like a search on the ideas exchange so people can vote directly in the results view.

nyoshida 12/11/08	A quick update on this. In the spring we will have a feature called "Suggested Ideas" that does exactly what you're thinking about here. As you are posting the Idea, it goes and tries to find similar ideas you may want to vote for instead of submitting a new idea to the community.

njdevilsfan 12/18/08	nyoshida- I love to see an idea marked as coming in the next release, especially when it's an idea I've posted. However, I don't think that what your talking about is the same as the idea I've posted. I'm talking about putting a search box on the top of the ideas section, just like there is on the top of this page. I love the concept of search then post, however from what your saying the suggested ideas would only show up after they have already decided to post an idea and started entering information. As helpful as that is to prevent duplicates, I think the search at the top of the section would help them find the idea without ever having go to the post idea page. Plus, lots of times people are willing to vote for something that's there already but they aren't necessarily willing to take them time to post themselves. I search for ideas here all the time, I'd like the end users to be able to do that same. Any chance that the functionality I'm referring to is also coming in the next release?
proactive 12/20/08	Why not allow for the administrator to reorder (overriding all voting) of ideas. While you're at it, allow for Ideas to be set as "Accepted", equivalent to "Released" here.
