Salesforce Content search needs to be more fuzzy

In Salesforce Content, if I have a document with title of:

digitalpressure_music_license_2007_12_06

Then these search strings won't find the record:

"pressure"
"digitalpresure" (accidentally misspelled)
"digi" (although "digit" will find the record
"*pressure" (leading wildcard not supported)
"2007_12_06"
"2007"

Thanks for the feedback. Would it work if we just treated _ as spaces in our search engine? So if you search for music it would find your doc.

My worry about making it fuzzy is the extra noise you get in the search results.

1 For example, if you search for 'press', do you really want search results returned that relate do 'digitalPRESSure' ? I think it could lead to more problems than it solves.

2. We could add support for wildcards, but then does that mean you have to train every user to search 'normally' and then, if they don't find it, search again with a wildcard.

My other suggestion is to tag this document with 'pressure' etc. if you want people to find it using different words.

Timbar -- thanks for asking these questions.

We name the documents in Content after the name of the counterparty. For example:

a document is named zero_g_games_cla_2007_09_30

The user doesn't really know when they search if the name of the counterparty is zerog or 'zero g'

If they search on 'zerog' then no record is found
If they search on 'zero g' then a record is found

In the original post, the counterparty is officially named digitalpressure but a search for 'digital pressure' will not find the document.

So, our issue 1 has to do with searcher getting missing results when they can't anticipate the orthography of a document name that may/may not have a _ separator representing a space.

And our issue 2 is lack of support for wildcards (implicit or explicit)

'zer' will not find zero_g_games_cla_2007_09_30
'zer*' will not find zero_g_games_cla_2007_09_30
'entre' will not find entrepreneur_cla_2003_09_08

Since there is no wildcard support, we can't find documents in Content using potentially misspelled searches. For example, if the user can't find entrepreneur_cla_2003_09_08

using a search of 'entre'
then they will also fail with common misspellings like:

'entreprenuer'

Adding tags is not really an answer as who is going to take the time to generate tags for anticipated misspelled or partial word searches? As you recall from our demo, we have up to 1000 docs in SFDC Content now
