Salesforce.com Certification Program
In the 5 years that I've been my company's salesforce.com administrator, my fellow employees have been able to obtain industry recognized certifications from Oracle and Microsoft. At the same time as improving their skill sets, these certifications improve their opportunity for job security, career advancement and better compensation. My salesforce experience doesn't mean as much during my HR review as my friend's Microsoft certification. And I don't want to be penalized for focusing on salesforce.com instead of SQL, .NET or Oracle.
I know that you have some courses available but it's easier to get funding for courses that are part of a certification program that a stand alone course. And how about a self study option for some of the classroom courses?
Salesforce has a certification program for partner companies but how about one for the system administrators that actually make your product work for your customers?
Thanks.
Aiden

Agreed. In fact, I have heard that there are already "certified" admins out there, yet I can not find any information on any related programs. |

Totaly agree with you. That would be good for SFDC and for their users , admin, project manager. |

I think the certified admins are from partner companies, I know when I did my admin course then they got my org mixed up with another and wanted me to sit the exam. I'd have happily done so if it meant recognition for my knowledge & experience. |

Completely Agree. If Force.com is a valuable and money saving tool to a company, then my experience, knowledge & ability to administer/develop on it should be a commodity. They've done a great job to encourage developers to work with Salesforce, this is the missing piece. I'm sure such a program would help in overcoming the adoption barrier if prospective new Salesforce customers knew there was a certified pool of existing talent out there (like other CRM systems). |

Salesforce.com does have an outline of this all ready internally (certification has taken place across the company at various times) but I think this is a great idea to roll this out more widely. |

I applaud the "discovery" of this and would welcome its arrival. I recently investiagated this very idea when I was contacted for a job opportunity by a recruiter and subsequently overlooked due to the inability to really affirm my prowess with Salesforce.com. Undoubtedly, adding certification would help reinforce the practical experience I gained over the years while promoting and using Salesforce.com! |

You can actually do that now. I am not from a partner customer, but was in the same position you are describing. SFDC does offer the certification program (only once a year and it is) at DreamForce. The cost is $500 and you have to get something like an 80 or 90 on the exam. I took it last year and passed so I got access to the logo for Salesforce Summer 07 Certified Administrator. |

I signed up as a referral partner, with this you get access to the partner portal. There are 3 levels of certified consultant. Level 1 is basic, level 2 is advanced, and level 3 is for apex developers. I got the Level 2 one, and I got a nice little logo saying "Salesforce.com Level II Ceritified Consultant" which I stick on my email footer. Cost $1000, but well worth it in my view. |

Totaly agree with you. That would be good for SFDC,their users and for my CV. |

I agree. This should be offered all of the time as opposed to only at Dreamforce events or without having to be a "Partner" of some sort. |
|

How about someone in Europe having the same opportunity, without the need to attend Dreamforce on the other side of the (new) world? |
|
wennerj May 2 |
I would definitely want this opportunity without having to attend Dreamforce and without being a Partner. Customer System Admins should be allowed to be certified in SFDC. :) |

Totally agree with all comments so far... I'm curious what Salesforce has to say about this... Is it coming? If so when? |

I am preparing for the exam and finding the site with a lot of help but all scattered. I would like SFDC to create a microsite that helps users to get certification soley. It so difficult to find info. Is that deliberate. Thanks |

A recognized SFDC certification would help with adoption, marketing and customer loyalty to the product. |

SFDC should do for SFA's (SalesForce Admins) what Oracale did for DBA's basically create its own job class. I have been to the admin training and have a certificate, but would like to take a test and show my employer and others that I know my stuff! |

I agree as well. I wouldn't mind taking advantage of this at Dreamforce if it's indeed available, however, it would be much more convenient to have curriculum that's accessible via a separate site (a Salesforce University). As administrators, this would provide knowledge and trust development. I believe this would also benefit Salesforce as, in some cases, administrators would be more aggressive to attend classes if they were receiving 'credit' for them. |

I agree it would be nice... |

They should have SFDC Certification Path for customers for System Admin, Developers and Business Analysts. |

Great Idea. I have certs from various computer realted areas but i believe Force.com would out weigh them all!!! I have found innovative was to use the platform that awardd our company The Schumacher Group the 2007 Customer Innovation Award at Dream force and since then we have extended our org to create Work Queues, Form Filling PDF usinf Force.com and one other Partner,CONGA, that I helped pioneer and improve the Form Filling Process. We now populate Medical, Insurance and Government forms using either PDF off websites or word documents directly from Force.com. We can do Cross joins, Report Joins, infact I have several forms over 25 pages in length that use over 27 Force. rports to gather all the Custom Objects and Standard Objects together in a single REPORT mechanism. Sounds like opening Level 2 certification to the public would solve the problem... |

A few highlights: * We announced 2 levels of certification for both administrators and developers: Administrator / Advanced Administrator and Developer / Advanced Developer * To earn a certification, you have to pass a certification exam * The best way to prepare for an exam is to sign up for a training class. Certification packages include classroom training and an exam voucher (you can also take the exams without taking a class) * Administrator classes and exams are available now * Developer classes are available starting in August (you can sign up now), and exams will be available soon * We are also designing Master-level certifications for both admins and developers * We are rolling out in North American initially, followed by EMEA next month and the rest of the world following that Further details at http://www.salesforce.com/certification |
