Expanding the VLOOKUP Formula

Currently the VLOOKUP function is limited to doing lookups in custom objects and can only be used in validation rules.

The VLOOKUP function should be capable of doing lookups in standard objects and perform in custom field formulas.

larryh 08/21/08	I strongly agree! i'd love to be able to create an object that consists of my vlookup object and have it auto-populate fields on the account page.

mscotton 09/17/08	I agree to! I hesitated to release the VLOOKUP function in only one formula context, but that is part of our iterative, agile development model. Rather than waiting a year to get all of the contexts delivered, we focused on getting one out the door (with the custom object only limitation). Now, our priorities have shifted and we were not able to get the other contexts or objects delivered this year. This is still on our roadmap, but I do not have a release target for it yet.
